EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Super Bowl star Plaxico Burress was suspended for one game by the New York Giants on Wednesday for an undisclosed violation of team rules.

General manager Jerry Reese and coach Tom Coughlin informed Burress of the suspension Wednesday morning before the team held a bye-week practice.

According to Fox Sports, which first reported the suspension on its Web site on Wednesday, Burress did not report to the team facility as expected on Monday and did not return phone calls from the team seeking an explanation.

The suspension takes effect immediately, meaning Burress will miss the Giants (3-0) game against the Seattle Seahawks on Oct. 5.

Burress will be allowed to return to team activities the following day.

Burress and the Giants agreed to a five-year, $35 million contact earlier this month.

To date, Burress has 18 receptions for 259 yards and a touchdown. He had 70 catches for 1,025 yards and 12 TDs in 2007 and caught the winning touchdown in the Giants' Super Bowl upset of the previously-unbeaten New England Patriots.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

So...two weeks, but because of the bye, actually only one game. Still, this could hurt a team that is gelling very well so far this year, and looking imressive on the field.

That guy didn't even practice (we talkin bout PRACTICE?!?) last year, so it shouldn't hurt him. But yea, that sucks for his team. Losing his 7'3" ass as a target is all bad for them.

the only thing suspending him will do is hurt the team

instead, hurt him and fine him $$$
he is losing a whole game paycheck which is worse then fining him a couple grand....when players fuck up owners/coaches/gms have to take a stance and do whats right....

if he had any other job and didnt come two days in a row without a call he would be canned....period

I agree they should be punished, but I think its because we dont know what he has done.. The fine I had in mind would be more than a game paycheck btw.

I don't think his absence will affect the Giants too much, they have several young receivers capable of doing their job....The giants have one of the most underrated receiving rosters in the league, imo...
