Breaking News: Gasol Traded To Lakers

Memphis Commerical Appeal -
The Commercial Appeal has learned that the Grizzlies have traded Pau Gasol to the Los Angeles Lakers for center Kwame Brown, rookie guard Javaris Crittenton and first-round draft picks in 2008 and 2010.

The decision was made that the Grizzlies could no longer move forward with Gasol on and off the basketball court.

The deal allows the Grizzlies to gain salary cap relief, as Brown is in the final year of a deal that pays $9,075,000.

Memphis got a good rookie pg prospect, two first round picks and an expiring contract for him. Thats usually what you want when you trade a star because you NEVER get fair market value for stars. The package the Bulls offered would have cluttered the roster. They already have a million guards and Swift who is basically a slightly less athletic, but much better player than Thomas.

Don't get me wrong. Its a good pick up for the Lakers and they definitely made a big upgrade, but I just don't think he's gonna make the impact that Laker fans hope for. Gasol always seemed soft to me. Or maybe its just cause I've always hated Gasol...who knows...lol

yeah the grizzlies didn't necessarily get anything in return that's gonna help them right now, but a $9M expiring contract, 2 first round picks, and a good rookie pg will help them alot down the road
