Cowboys cut ties with CB Jones after one season
Associated Press

IRVING, Texas -- Cornerback Adam Jones was released Wednesday by the Dallas Cowboys following a season in which he was suspended six games for an off-field incident.

The transaction will not become official until Feb. 9, the first day NFL teams can make waiver requests.

"He was surprised, and I think he was obviously somewhat hurt," said Worrick Robinson, Jones' agent. "At the same time, he understands the business behind what is happening here."

The Cowboys traded for Jones during the offseason, even though he had been suspended for the entire 2007 season because of a series of off-field incidents.

Jones missed six games this season for violating the league's player-conduct policy after an Oct. 7 scuffle with a team bodyguard at a Dallas hotel. He missed a seventh game because of an injury.

Jones averaged just 4.5 yards per punt return and had no interceptions.

Robinson said he didn't believe Jones' suspension was a factor in the Cowboys' decision to release the cornerback.

"We don't have any reason to believe at this point that that off-the-field incident had anything to do with the team's decision today," Robinson said. "I know there was certainly a lot of bad that came out of that situation, but there was some good that came out of that situation as well."

its kinda wierd how all the "experts" said he wasnt worth "shit" in a cowboys uniform....

it makes me wonder how many games these dudes actually watch to form an opinion...i watched all but 1 or 2 cowboys games this year and other then T. Newman he was arugebaly the 2nd most consistint DB on the team..

Tony it sounded like you were describing DeAngello Hall there.

You guys picked him up. Why not Pacman Jones?

I actually think he'd be a good addition to whatever team he goes to until he gets himself in trouble and gets suspended again. It could be worth it if there's a stipulation in his contract that says if he gets suspended you don't have to pay him.

I WOULDNT MIND HIM PLAYIN FOR THE NINERS IT WOULDNT HURT JUST DONT PAY HIM ALOT, I DONT THINK HE WOULD GET INTO TROUBLE IN FRISCO, BUT SHIT I WOULDNT THINK HE WOULD GET IN TROUBLE IN DALLAS, BUT I THINK SINGLETARY WOULD BE A GOOD COACH FOR HIM, ITS JUST I DONT KNOW IF SINGLETARY WOULD WANNA TAKE THAT CHANCE CUZ HE LOOK LIKE THE TYPE THAT DONT TAKE THAT BABY SHIT

Or Nate Clements? DeAngelo Hall didn't play all that bad if you ask me. People were just hating on D. Hall because he signed a fat contract with the Raiders. I recall Nate Clements giving up more big plays than D. Hall. Hall was playing on the other side of the best cornerback in the NFL...

When will folks give up on Pac-man? He wouldn't get in trouble out here because this is Cali/Bay area... He'll get lit up trying to punk people in strip clubs out here. The 49ers are too classy to sign a dude like that. My guess is the 49ers would be the last team in the NFL to sign Pac-man...

Or Nate Clements?
Like I didn't see that coming from a mile away. Nate Clements is not "too risky." He never gets into trouble. And he may not be living up to his contract, but to say he's not good is retarded. If they didn't give him such a big contract you wouldn't be hating on him every chance you get. The Niners overpaid, big deal it's not your team.

And that's the reason you're hating on Nate Clements.

Point them out. Fuck the talk, give me evidence. Any time the Niners give up a big play you blame it on Nate Clements. Show me proof that he is the one that gave up those plays. I watch every game, I would know if he was getting roasted like you claim he was. I know he gave up a few plays, just like all CBs, but we both know DeAngelo Hall was getting torched on a weekly basis. Get your facts straight before you make your claims. And just because you may have burned Clements on Madden doesn't mean he was getting lit up every week.

I agree, but I won't hate on him as a player for what he does with his personal life. Put a stipulation in his contract that says if he misses time due to his personal actions he won't get paid. And if he goes out and gets himself killed, oh well. It's not like it's gonna bring the team down. It'll just be like he never played for that team in the first place.

The Raiders aren't your team either but you still hate when you get the chance like now.

I don't hate on Nate Clemets but he gives up too many "Big" plays to be calling himself Mr. Lockdown.

I already pointed out the big plays he was giving up but you didn't keep it real by blaming poor old Walt Harris who plays on the opposite side. Randy Moss burns Nate and in your eyes it's Harris' fault yet Moss was Mr. Lockdown's man. What about the big plays he gave up to Plax? Fitzgerald? Devery Henderson of the Saints? D. Hall played a "bend" but don't break style by playing too far off. Clements was just getting toasted week after week. And for the record I haven't burned Clements on Madden yet. I think he's pretty good on Madden to tell you the truth. I used to have fun burning Ahmen Plummer though.

Why even deal with the distraction of having that mf on your team? Nothing but negative press....

Tony.. What the fuck are you talking about? Where did I hate on the raiders? Don't make shit up.

Nah, YOU don't wanna keep it real on this one. On that particular play, Nate Clements had underneath coverage, which means if Moss stays underneath he's Nate's man. Walt Harris had deep coverage, which means if Moss went deep, and he did, then it was Walt's man. Mike Nolan addressed this play in the post game interview and even the announcers pointed it out during the game. You wanna talk about keeping it real, but you refuse to keep it real regarding Nate Clements.

This is a good example of you blaming Nate Clements for something that was not his fault. Anytime a big play occurs you blame it on Nate. I'm not saying he's the best and I'm not saying he deserves that "Mr. Lockdown" nickname either, but he is far from garbage like you make him out to be.

Tony said:

Well let's see..

Plaxico Burress had 3 catches for 24 yards. Fitzgerald had 3 catches for 31 yards in the first game and 8 catches for a whopping 46 yards in the second. Those are the two LOWEST totals of the year for Larry Fitzgerald. Where the hell do you see BIG PLAYS?? With those stats there's no room for any big plays in there. And Devery Henderson had one catch for 81 yards against the Niners, and Mike Nolan addressed that as being Mark Roman's fault. I think the guy calling the coverages knows who's responsibility a receiver is.

Now give it a rest Tony. Nate Clements is not out there giving up big plays all the time. He had a stretch where he didn't look so good this season, but he wasn't half as bad as you try to make him out to be.

Tony said:

If you watched a Niner game before speaking on it you'd know that NATE CLEMENTS was playing a "bend but don't break" style and Nolan had him playing too far off his man. Clements is a physical CB who excels in bump and run coverage. He was playing 8-10 yards off his men because Nolan and Manusky are jackasses.

Refer to my response to your so-called examples of him getting burned.
