I let my thoughts talk for me, my pen talk for me, my words talk for me...what up homies. It's your boy, Mark My Words back at it again. You can be anywhere in the world, but you're here with me. I appreciate that. Today's Fire we talk some E-40, T.I., Just Blaze, Jay-Z, Nas and more. Buckle up and as Flava Flav would say, "You know what time it is!" This is the hip-hop live wire. This is the Friday Fire.
My week started off by attending the E-40 listening session in Downtown Manhattan's Electric Lady Studios. So, I get there along with various other members of the press and we end up waiting a minute for E-40 and Lil' Jon to make their way through. By waiting a minute, I mean nearly two hours. So, eventually E-40, alongside his entourage and the King of Crunk, makes his way to his own listening session for the My Ghetto Report Card album.
Now to be honest, I've seen what the Hyphy movement is capable of, but that was mainly due to E-40's video for his single, "Tell Me When To Go," so I was curious to see how they were going to hit New York City. So, Jon, the host of the affair, starts rolling out with the album and then the magnitude of hyphy hit me.
People, E-40's crew didn't touch the ground. I mean, nearly every damn time I looked over, one of these cats were frozen in the air. I mean live to the 10th power. As if his crew wasn't enough, E-40 and Jon brought out eight strippers and these girls weren't just standing there for eye candy like in other listening sessions. Nah, maan, these girls were getting in and grinding for tips.
One young lady even crushed a can of Crunk Energy Drink with a certain part of her body. Wow! Off to the corner, two girls were even playing "Hello Kitty," if y'all know what I mean. But, I'm not going to say anything more on this topic except for the fact that this hyphy sound and movement is going to be here a while.
The frenzied production and the live crew with their dance moves just add the right energy to the music. Hyphy is hip-hop's new sound and to be honest give me a hyphy track any day over the new snap sound. E-40 gets it. ...
