Yep... I was trippin' because I was standing on the visitors sideline holding/moving the yard sticks. I was like damn... I've never seen that defense before and our dumb ass coach kept trying to run right up the gut. Our rb's were getting stuffed in the backfield. Maybe some quick WR screens could beat it if the WR can shake the DB since he has one on one coverage.
Yeah, I feel you on this, because it sounds like the coaches weren't using any common sense. A Sprint Out, All Hook, Buck Lateral, Wing Reverse, Fake Reverse, etc. could be used in this situation. Again, it all depends on what formation the offensive coach was using. Usually an over aggressive defense will bite on these plays. I wouldn't recommend using any screens at this age, unless it was practiced with plenty of reps in practices (which would take up a lot of practice time). They would back off a little after these plays because your keeping them honest. Then I would go back to the Isolation, Wedge, Off Tackle, Blast, etc. to keep them thinking. A high percentage pass is the silent audible I would use between the Flanker and Tailback. It is just a Hitch to the Flanker when he is ever unmanned or the D is playing way off.
Again, coaching youth football is pretty much commom sense when you think about it. I've seen some coaches try and confuse their opponent, but really only confuse their own team. This isn't the NFL where you have top notch defenders, so you don't have to mix it up run/pass all the time. I would just keep using what's working. Like they say, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".....
