KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A northeast Kansas couple faces federal charges of selling items associated with illegal drug use at stores they own in Missouri.
7th Heaven, Kansas City
Jan Fichman and his wife, Anita, both 52, live in the Johnson County community of Leawood, Kan. Prosecutors said the couple owns a company that operates stores called 7th Heaven.
Thursday's six-count indictment stated that more than $3 million worth of illegal drug paraphernalia was sold at two 7th Heaven stores in Missouri -- one in Kansas City and the other in Sedalia.
U.S. Attorney Todd Graves said federal law prohibits the sale of such paraphernalia as glass and metal pipes, and clips that hold marijuana cigarettes.
"Today's indictment should send a very clear message: that we will do everything we can to protect children from the drug culture and the scourge of illegal drugs," Graves said.
The indictment alleges that illegal items were sold at the stores on at least four occasions from October 2003 through May 2004.
