Harlem Diplomat Jim Jones has the highest selling hip-hop debut this week after moving 94K copies of his 3rd solo LP Hustler’s P.O.M.E. The Koch Records release lands at #6 on the Billboard Top 200, closely trailed by Lil Wayne and Baby’s joint album, Like Father, Like Son, which sold another 72k to grab the #7 spot. Other debut records that charted this week include Kansas City’s Tech N9ne at #50 (21K) with his latest Everready (The Religion) and Houston’s Z-Ro at #75 (14K) with his new disc I’m Still Living. Elsewhere on the charts we see Mississippi natives Cadillac Don & J-Money debut at #156, moving just under 7K copies of their inaugural LP Look At Me. Miami rapper Pitbull fell several spots since his debut at #17 last week, moving to #57 with an additional 19K copies of El Mariel.

Good Shit!

This is exactly what I thought Tech would sell the first week, especially with no single blowin' up the airwaves. I was hoping for 30k, but I would say 21k is damned good for an indie label. This is Strange's first record completely solo... well, with Fontana, but I'm saying no Universal/Interscope/JCor, no MSC and no QD3 either. I'd say this is awesome; they just have to keep grinding and they will have success! Hopefully, some big record label will take notice and reward Tech and Strange with an offer they can't refuse. :classic:

I agree with you. I think they are real close to something big, but had to hold off for Everready. :paranoid:

Shouldnt this have been posted in the Definitive thread? ..............J/P I dont know where that figure came from. I myself predicted around 30k. Too bad the actual total was under that, but what do you expect when the promoting of the album didnt start until about 2 or 3 weeks before the album dropped. It should of been 2 or 3 months prior to the release date at least.

One more thing, has anyone seen the Independent Billboard Charts, I tried to go there but you have to be a suscriber.

not so fast...

Absolute power debuted at #79. Should we be disappointed or happy with sales. I think Tech's my space message about being jocked by record stores tells me to be disappointed? What do you guys think?
