LATHROP - A 24-year-old man was arrested Tuesday for allegedly selling a 12-year-old girl diabetes medication that he pretended was ecstasy.
The Sheriff's Office reported that in early March, the 12-year-old girl fell ill and told her mother she had taken two ecstasy pills. The girl was treated at San Joaquin General Hospital.
Investigators learned the pills the girl had purchased, eight in all, were glimepiride, used to treat diabetes. The Sheriff's Office reported the pills were sold to the girl by Eric McKinney, 24, whose home in the 13000 block of Pipestone Street was searched Tuesday.
There deputies found "medication consistent with the pills sold as ecstasy," the Sheriff's Office said.
McKinney was arrested and booked into the County Jail on charges of willfully harming a child, selling a controlled substance to a child, preparing a controlled substance for sale to a child, false representation of a controlled substance, and transport and sale of a controlled substance.
He was being held in lieu of $1,090,000 bail.------------------------
