heres a few things to think about!!
today(sept 28th) there was a 6.0-magnitude quake and more than 160 aftershocks. .The quake struck at 10:15 a.m. PDT and was felt along a 350-mile stretch, as far north as Sacramento and as far south as Santa Ana, southeast of Los Angeles. The center was about halfway between Los Angeles and San Francisco.
tomorrow(sept 29th)The largest asteroid ever known to pass near Earth is making a close celestial brush with the planet this week in an event that professional and backyard astronomers are watching closely.Asteroid Toutatis Makes Closest Pass in 651 Years.. The space rock, named Toutatis, will not hit Earth, despite rumors of possible doom that have circulated the Internet for months. Humanity is very fortunate there won't be an impact, as the asteroid is large enough to cause global devastation. Toutatis is about 2.9 miles long and 1.5 miles wide (4.6 by 2.4 kilometers). No space rock this big will pass so close in the next century, scientists say. And while similarly large asteroids have hit the planet in the distant past, none so big have come so close since astronomers have had the means to notice them
volcano eruption may happen in WA..
SEATTLE - Small earthquakes rattled Mount St. Helens at the rate of one or two a minute Monday, and seismologists were working to determine the significance of some of the most intense seismic activity in nearly 20 years. St. Helens' May 18, 1980, eruption killed 57 people, leveled hundreds of square miles of forests and dumped volcanic ash across the Northwest.
In October 1980, the lava dome began building in the crater. The last dome-building eruption was in October 1986, but there have been periodic steam explosions.
Sunday's activity was the most in a 24-hour period since the 1986 eruption, said survey geologist Willie Scott
GLOBAL WARMING-dioxide levels over the Antarctica rose by over 2.6 percent from six years ago — the first such detection of an increase in a "greenhouse" gas above the southern continent, group members said Tuesday. Many scientists fear carbon dioxide, produced by burning fossil fuels and other industrial processes, may be causing global warming by trapping heat in the Earth's atmosphere.
