A Healdsburg man was arrested outside of a music concert in Petaluma late Monday on suspicion of armed robbery after allegedly stealing show merchandise, Petaluma police officials said.

A witness waved down an officer at about 11:20 p.m. and said a man was wielding a knife outside the Phoenix Theater on Washington Street, Sgt. Steve Nelson reported.

Initial calls to 911 reported that the man had a gun.

The man, later identified as Jeronimo Cervantes, 18, allegedly took a t-shirt and medallion from a merchandise table for the performer, rap artist Tech Nine, police said.

Cervantes ran out of the store, followed by a clerk at the table and security, said Sgt. Andrew Urton.

The clerk grabbed the medallion from Cervantes' hand and the two men ended up in a tug-of-war with the t-shirt, Urton said.

“That's when the knife comes out, and the guy lets go of the shirt,” Urton said.

Security staff used flashlights to point officers to Cervantes, who had tossed the knife in a trash can, Urton said.

Cervantes posted bond on $30,000 bail, according to jail staff.
