Downtown, Pittsburg. Southeast Dago.
that devin line was a joke. dude speaks to devin in spanish right after that. i think that was just letting yall know that in texas sometimes mexicans and blacks are cool enough to joke about racism because of the real racism goign on between blacks and browns/blacks and whites in places like texas, and maybe something like marijuana can break racial boundaries and bring both colors together to get high and have fun (same is the case with a few of my friends)

why i had to break that down, i dunno

know your role and watch what you say when you talk. that is all. First amendmant right. freedom of speech. But that doesnt mean get outta pocket and run your mouth. Be your self playas... it willl benefit u alot better..

Everyone wants to be "this and that", instead of "this or that"

But then again where I grew up thats all I was called. Nobody called me cracka or wetback. That's all I grew up saying. You know when you're with your people your boys you grew up with or in some of the same places the shit comes back to you like second nature.

I understand it is group language but what about the language of poverty? What about people who grew up around black people and that language?

Maybe linguistically I do need to "grow up" in a sense. Im not no little hood or some 30 year old ass dude drinkin and smokin with high schoolers on his moms front porch.

People do say "guey" but most Latins wont trip off it.

I see what you did there but I think wetback paisa scrap is necessarily perjorative as opposed to nigga which is rarely used in the 'original' form.
they are not neccesarily pejorative because I have heard Mexicans use those terms in endearment. It's like your friends clowning that you got your ass whooped, you laugh with them and say fuck yall, but when someone who isn't a friend comes clownin you wanna whoop his ass. There's things we accept from the group, and if your small group allows that, dont mean the bigger group they come from allows it. You a smart dude WHite Devil you know what I'm sayin. ANd Nigga isn't a word of poverty any more than vato, or ese...where's the black dudes runnin around sayin those words?

I was one of the ignorrant sums of bitches that used the N word at one time. It did not matter where I was or who I was around, that was just the lingo we used. If anyone questioned it, they got smashed. And trust me, it happened on a few occasions. But ultimately that word, along with my lifestyle at that time, was ignorrant so it made sense.

True but I think its also a regional thing.

In the bay its like most get a pass to say it, then you got people on some other shit talkin bout dont say it. End of the day if it's something you grew up around you gonna go back to it regardless. But nobody is gonna run they mouth off to everyone and anyone unless they a straight up idiot.

I guess it's sort of the dichotomy between challenge and acceptance. Does the challenge to mainstream culture by hip-hop supercede acceptance and the desire to bring more into the fold? Or is the line already drawn and there are absolute non-negotiables? At least in the City I dont think anyone is going to get at a mexican in the hood obviously out here for saying nigga, and I think even in some circumstances a white dude either.

Like, its something evaluated on an individual level. And regional factors are a big part - you obviously not gonna think that everywhere is like the bay.

I actually say nigga more in front of people I know than over the net. It feels disrespectful to say it in a group of people that I dont know. But the peeps I know dont give a fuck.. I hang out with alotta mexicans and theres some blacks in the group. Usually when im drinking I feel more open to say it (which I bet will get me in trouble in the future) but still. oh well. shit happens. They can call me whatever in return. they all know im a hella easy going dude

Only use it when I'm quoting something. Just isn't something I could see myself using in conversation, no matter if I'm around people who toss the word around freely.
