u kno wut more rappers need 2 do is make acapella tracks..that way we kno the muthafucka can rap, cuz 99% of a good track is the beat and hook, hardly any rappers now a dayz is sayin shit cuz everyone is stay the same thing, this is kinda y i like andre nickatina, on almost every album he had a acapella and he was puttin it down hard WITHOUT a beat, more rappers need 2 do then we can weed out these gimmick niggas that rely only on good production

That's it goes with club shit though, hardly anyone gives a fuck about the lyrics. I'd rather hear more from people like Yuk (outside of diss tracks), Quinn, etc. Solid muthafuckas who really can rap.

If you wanna make real money in this biz then fuck lyrics you need to dumb it down for the radio singles but at least keep it real by putting lyrical shit on your album. That way you can make money and keep your real fans happy at the same time.

^^ i dont messy marv is far from a lyricist and i think he will tell you that himself too

But anyway hell no! lyrics dont matter.. aslong as the beat is good and it has a catchy hook you can rap about anything you want which is sad me personally i can't listen to wack rappers i don't care how hot the beat and the hook is im "wack16's" alllergic

Depends on the type of song...

Hyphy music is more about the feeling you get when youre listening to it. The beat also plays a big part in the hyphy sound. The music gotta make you wanna get hyphy and go dummy wit it.

When your listening to deep rap or even backpack youre looking for a message or understanding.

If youre looking for that same depth from hyphy music then you are clearly misunderstanding what it is about musically...

Some of the artist that you listed are lyricists as well not only "hyphy(as u put it) rappers."

Sometimes you gotta have fun with music....

Man, you niggas make it seem like you have to be Mos Def or Talib Kweli to talk about some real shit. Man, straight up, a lot of niggas just aren't well rounded artists. A lot of niggas can only do or talk about one thing. In addition a lot of these that you are looking for some deep shit from haven't been through anything to tell anything of relavance. Look at everybody's favorite super hero F.A.B. He ain't really cut from the turf. But, now you see this nigga in photos shoots with guns on his waist. Come on man. Rappers really need to step it up. But, this is the shit you niggas go out and buy then, complain because the radio doesn't play and "Real Shit". The radio is only going to pay either what their getting paid to play or what they think people want to hear.

Examples of being real and having major star potential. . . 2Pac/ Jay-Z/ Biggie/ Nas/ Ice Cube/ The Game/ Kanye West/ Scarface/ T.I. / 50 Cent

At Lil' Rebel and every other artist on here. . .Don't worry about the niggas that jump out there before you. If it's meant to be you'll have your season. Stay doing you and when your season comes then, literally change the game. Hyphy is a fad. It will be here and gone before you know it. The truth is forever it never changes. What's real today will be real tomorrow. All of that yada yada boo boo shit these niggas be talking is nonsense. It's not grown man music. But, you have to understand the truth takes longer to be accepted. So, stay patiently waiting to blow. . .Ladies and gentleman I'd like you to get ready for V.Jones.

Not all DJs get paid to play music...Im not going to say some dont, but alot do NOT...

There is nothing wrong with "the truth" or being a lyricist...
I just think that rebel was looking for the wrong thing in the type of music he selected...

Better question is do beats even matter anymore..?
Obviously not with this Hyphy shit some of yall get a hard on over...

haha, thats real right there, all the hyphy beats ive heard must have been made in 2 minutes while on the toilet or something. no lyrical content and wack beats, thats generally whats on mainstream radio. no wonder the hyphy movement is blowing up

I just hate when niggas think of Talib Kweli and Common when they think of lyricists or music with a message. Those niggas have no G appeal or swagger. I can't get into them. I think what Rebel is saying is where is the niggas with G appeal and swagger that the majority of us being cut from the turf and grew up rough around the edges can get into. Who can we relate too? Where are our Pacs? Where are our generations Ice Cubes (Before Predator. . .the old Ice Cube)? I think the Game is raw. A lot of shit that has a message isn't necessarily deep? What's deep anyway? Because a nigga used some big words and wear a kuffi, he's deep? Come on, man, niggas just want shit we can get into and we can relate too and I think that's why he put Messy Marv on his list. Although, Quinn might be better lyrically, Marv has more of a complete package. Niggas don't build a CAREER off hot. They build a career off niggas feeling them. Check Eminem/ Mary J./ Jigga/ Usher/ Alicia Keys/ etc. etc. No matter when these people release they make others artist push their dates back. . .because each one of them has a fan base that's at 1.5 million deep.

He's a list of my favorites that are alive. . .In the order that I'd buy their album (Not all Bay). . .

V.Jones
T.I.
Messy Marv
Jay-Z
The Game & Nas (This one depends on who had the hottest single on radio)

Everybody else's CD I got. . .Doesn't come with no artwork.

what sells is hooks & beats....its a proven fact that you can be the worst of the worst rappers and have something a little catchy and get spins nationally....look at d4l, the most recent example....really, lyricism all depends on WHAT YOU WANT IT TO BE...someone thought 50 cent is a lyricist...I personally think his lyrics are ass, but he's a tremendous songwriter, he knows how to use cadence & has more hooks than a boxing match....real lyricists don't often make it...look at crooked I, that foo puts serious effort into his punchlines and has wordplay out the ass...I think the bay area doesn't have too many lyricsist, because the world really doesn't...but there's people that understand it....ya boy can spit and go hard...but on his album he chose when to go lyrical and when to dumb it down and focus on the hook....locksmith from frontline can flip his words with the best of them, but left is as booty as they come...turf talk is an insane amount of garbage...but his delivery and what he talks about makes everyone (including me) want to hear his shit...its this exact reason that "top 5 MC" lists are always different depending on who you ask...personally I think Del can run circles lyrically around everyone thats been named, but I can't even listen to a whole album by him...lyrics don't matter unless you want them to....you are a consumer, you speak with your money

i feel what yall are sayin but its like Balance, Locksmith, Doonie etc... yall labeled to be real nice with it on the mic but when a slappin beat comes on they write bullshit...

i dont care what kinda beat comes on im not gonna write no bullshit but thats just me...

Messy Marv - Get On My Hype

Hyphy song but he didnt dumb down his lyrics for no one and thats what i like about him

Gotham City knows exactly where im coming from. I didnt ask anything about lyricists, i asked do lyrics matter anymore cuz of course the beat slaps but damn niggas should just put out instrumental cds if they wanna write like 5th graders
