Come support the students of Oakland High School as they Speak Out against repression in their schools and community.

Oakland High School (at the front gage on MacArthur Blvd., near Park Blvd.)

Students have been speaking out, resisting, and organizing walkouts against the war that the U.S. government is waging at home and abroad. In response, the administration has been trying to silence students by

* Suspending students who passed out fliers about student anti-war walkouts

* Installing barbed wire on fences to prevent students from climbing them during walkouts

* Silencing dissent in classroom discussions

* And most recently, allowing the Secret Service to come into the school and interrogate two students.

These kinds of OUTRAGEOUS advances of a new McCarthyism cannot be allowed to go on any further. We will not, and cannot live like that again. Please, we need adults to come and support the students. This principal has a history of disregarding students' welfare, and is not above cutting corners and using white lies to stop student resistance. The youth and community organizations (Pueblo, Kids First, Real Hard, Youth Together, Oakland United, Not In Our Name, and others) will lead a Speak Out RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE PRINCIPAL'S OFFICE. We really need adults; this is a chance for parents and community members to express their outrage and stand with Oakland students against repression. Demand the freedom of speech that we, and especially the upcoming generation, deserve!

[Game Warden]

*83% of the kids entering Castlemont High School fail to graduate.

*Fremont High has some of the worst test scores and grad rates in the state. Worst, than Richmond, Compton, and Long Beach (the 3 worst districts in the country).

*The school district is bankrupt (100 MILLION in debt) and is getting bailed out by the state

* Many of the OUSD schools dont even have a calculus TEACHER. Caluculus is the gateway class to college

* Bilingual education has failed. Over 75% of the kids who are in bilingual are never "reclassified"... meaning they started out speaking another language....went all through the Oakland Schools and NEVER learned to speak english enough to take classes with everyone else.

* The district just laid off over over 400 teachers

* The superintendant was fired yesterday

* Black male graduation rate is at a hefty 9% (no that is not a typo) NINE FUCKIN PERCENT

*there is no money for field trips

*Schools in the flatlands are broken into and vandalized weekly by locals. Doing thousands of dollars of recurring damage...

* Students are generally 2 readign levels behind their grade. Meaning 9th graders read like seventh graders.

* Black males by fourth grade are 5 levels behind. On AVERAGE a black ninth grader reads like a fourth grader. Word of caution, for every guy that reads like a seventh grader, there is one tho reads like a first grader.


WHt the fuck are we worrying about walkouts, protests, and war. Fuck the dumb shit. These muthafuckers better start learning and stop bitchin and moanin.

They got barbed wire to prevent walkouts...well they better get used to it because they got places with plenty of barbed wire juuuust for people who went through these fucked up schools and didn't learn shit.

While you're protesting, tell the kids at O High that there is a new high school exit exam thatthey have to pass soon or they wont get diplomas. These schools have not prepared them and now they are going to be thrown to the wolves. In two years, when that exit exam kicks in, very few will pass. Shit, its suppossed to start next year, but the schools went to court becuase they know none of the kids will pass it. Instead of concentrating on this "important factr" they are distracted by this bullshit about war and McArtyism. SOmebody somewhere is laughin. If our kids are paying attention to this shit.... how the fuck will they even have a chance to overcome the more pressing obstacles that require 150% focus and dedication.

a fuckin protest. Shit. Secret Service needs to be in these Got-Damn schools. Maybe they can investigate and find out what the FUCK is going on!

Real talk...they need not focus on issues beyond their control, but more like focus on issues that they can control and change. These kids need to get their education, then speak up about the shit they know about. Not just in Oakland, ALL OVER THE FUCKIN COUNTRY!! When I graduated, almost all of the people I was cool with, didn't...and it's fuckin sad. What happens if they make a difference to the government? If the government changed it's policies, you think they would put more money out to make sure kids get their learn on? Hell no...

It's fine and dandy that these kids know what's goin on globally, but they need to focus on the real issues at hand...and that is the percentage of graduating high school seniors...
