The United Football League announced today that former NFL coaches Jim Fassel, Dennis Green, Jim Haslett and Ted Cottrell have been hired as head coaches for its inaugural season.

During a press conference held in San Francisco, UFL commissioner Michael Huyghue praised the new hires for the first-year professional football league.

“When seeking coaches for the UFL we set out to find the most outstanding individuals to lead our teams,” Huyghue said. “We sought leaders with successful NFL backgrounds, who were excellent communicators and teachers of the game and were excited about building new franchises. We were fortunate to find four individuals who embody these attributes. These men are truly winners in every sense of the word.”

Green will coach the San Francisco franchise after going 113-94 as a head coach with the Minnesota Vikings and Arizona Cardinals.

Fassel, the former New York Giants coach, will coach the Las Vegas franchise. Fassel coached the Giants to a Super Bowl appearance during the 2000 season.

Haslett, a former New Orleans Saints coach and St. Louis Rams interim coach, will coach the Orlando team.

And Cottrell, a former San Diego Chargers, Buffalo Bills, New York Jets and Vikings defensive coordinator, will coach the New York team.

The UFL championship game is scheduled for Thanksgiving weekend in Las Vegas.

The San Francisco franchise will play its games at AT&T Park.

VERSUS will broadcast the games on Thursday nights.

There are so many football fans clamoring for a home team to root for. In its "Premiere" year, the UFL will have four teams playing in at least seven cities. These cities include Las Vegas/Los Angeles, New York/Hartford, Orlando and San Francisco/Sacramento.
