It always blows my mind how relevent his words are to the current day. Read this article, it was about when the bay was really just coming up and artists were establishing themselves. I don't know if anyone here has ever brought this up, but really, aren't we going through this right now? The exact same shit, we still deal with.

And with this, I challenge you. Who's new who's got a fresh sound, aint just a gangsta, aint just 'slumpin' but really puts down intellegent music as an ARTIST. Now I'm not sayin that you can't be a pimp, dealer, or just mob or whatever gets you off, but I mean actually having concepts for albums making songs for a purpose, relating to more than rappin about rappin, you know?

So why the hell am I asking this?

First and most importantly, did the bay go into a recession? Why the hell did it all die out like it did?

Secondly, where did the music go? Why does most new bay music just sound like everyone's out to get a hit. What happened to the golden days of the bay, when you could go out and buy an album and it'd quality, front to back, every track. What happened to having labels like YBB put out classic after classic?

Did all the ideas get used up? Is bay music really that dried up? Of course not. Then someone show me shit that aint the fuckin federation (sorry but i can't stand that shit) ect.

(NOTE: Since everyone here is a hardass or whatever, realize I'm not hating the bay or whatever it is that pisses you people off, I honestly just want to know what you all think about this shit, you're opinion on the current state of the music we all love so damn much. My purpose is to get information, so prove me wrong, as thats what im asking, not for you to ignorantly flame.)

First and foremost, it's good to see somebody who's on the same page as I am. I've been a major supporter of "different shit" since I jumped on the scene out here, and for that I've been disrespected and not taken seriously. I refused to get features on my album, only people on that shit are people I fuck with on a personal level, my road dawgs, and for that nobody bought my shit in the Bay, which is all good cause I have support in other markets. Now, on to the answers.

The BAY died out because, for one, everybody started rappin', trying to make a quick buck without thinking shit through. This puts a BAD image on people that are doing this music because they want to DO THE MUSIC!! I've been makin' tapes and what not since I was a pre-teen, doing it cause I love it, and all that shit nobody thinks about...the money comes later...but if you don't do it because you love it from the jump, you shouldn't be doing it...become a bank teller or some shit. With easy access to home recording equipment, anybody can become a fucking poet these days, and call themselves a rapper. Now, people outside the box can't see the cats with real skill because of the "smoke screen" that has been put up by these cats with no talent. Everybody has albums out with the same 27 features on 'em, then they list all of 'em on the cover. That shit doesn't look too professional OR serious when you have the whole album cover, covered with names of features....

Everyone is out to get a hit, all musicians do is dream about making that hit that blows them out of the fucking water. Like I said though, there is a smoke screen. It's DIFFICULT for the Quinn's to blow because of the garbage out here...and it's even more difficult for potential up and coming hit makers to be heard because of the same smoke screen, it fucks all of us. So, a lot of rappers out here think they have to resort to making tracks that sound like modern hits, because that's the only way these muthafuckaz are gonna let us in the door. Sad, but true. I'm hoping Quinn is gonna blow, I've been hearing things out here, and I hope it's all true cause he truly deserves it.

As long as we start thinking DIFFERENT, and CHANGE, everything is going to be alright. Stop supporting the cats making albums on karaoke machines, and start supporting the cats putting their blood, sweat and tears into this rap shit...thats the only way we can rise above it.

Let the shit talking begin....

i think you made some great points though sydal...

think about it this way, you've all seen that american idol in some form at some point. everyone on the damn show tryin to sound like whitney houston and all that shit. thats the problem, everyone thinks you gotta sound the same, thats just not true. if you look at all the people that have REALLY made it in the music industry its all because they have their OWN FUCKEN STYLE, not cause they sound like some other fucken chump you've ever heard. thats how you stay second best. you wanna make it, you gotta be yourself, and be innovative.

This shit is so much more relevant now than it was in 2005. 2005 was a golden age of bay area rap by comparison.
