Darius Miles, the former Trail Blazers forward who is looking for employment within the NBA, will be a little less attractive to teams today after it was learned that Miles is subject to a 10-game suspension for violating the league's Anti-Drug program.

It is not known for what substance Miles tested positive, but in the NBA's Collective Bargaining Agreement, it states a player can receive a 10-game suspension for testing positive once for performance-enhancing drugs or for his fourth positive test of marijuana.

Players are randomly tested four times a year, from Oct. 1 through June 30. After the first positive test for marijuana a player is entered into the league's substance abuse program. The second positive test carries a $25,000 fine. The third a five-game suspension and the fourth a 10-game suspension, with each subsequent positive test carrying a five-game incremental suspension.

Miles has not played in an NBA game in two years, so it is not known when, or if, he was suspended five games during that time.

Although the Blazers waived Miles in April after an independent doctor ruled Miles' injuries to his right knee were career ending, the 10-game suspension is still relevant to the team. The Blazers will pay Miles the remaining $27.25 million of his contract, but his salary does not count against the Blazers' salary cap. However, if Miles returns to the NBA and plays in 10 games in one season in either of the next two seasons, his salary goes back onto the Blazers' books.

The suspension figures to make Miles even more damaged goods for a team interested in signing him. It is unclear whether Miles is trying to make a comeback, although it was rumored that he has been working out in Phoenix. His agent, Jeff Wechsler, did not return a phone message on Wednesday. No player has ever come back to the NBA after being deemed to have a career-ending injury.

The only thing D. Miles was good for was the headtap him and Q. Rich invented in '01-02, a few dunks here and there, and for wearing sick ass Jordans earlier in his career, before his ass got dropped from team Jordan.

good. this basically means that nobody is gonna offer him a 10 day contract. if he plays in 10 games this year his salary is reapplied to the cap and we lose about 8 million in cap flexibility.

^^^by that time we wont have any cap space though so it wont matter. this is the only year we really need him to not play. Once we resign our own FA's, extend Roy, LMA, etc and make a big trade of FA splash, our cap space will be gone for the next 14 or so years.

D-Miles is a piece of shit, think what would have happened if we actually would have brought him back when he said he was ready to go, lol. im so happy that this happened, not to mention that no player has ever returned to play in the NBA after being deemed to have had a career ending injury. soo...not too worried about him playing...ever again.

Um….What?!: Here is a headline no one expected to see: "Darius Miles Impresses Celtics in Workouts." The workout was referred to as "impressive" by the Boston Globe.

Interesting to say the least, especially coming off the news yesterday Miles was hit with a 10-game suspension for drugs. It's also quite surprising that just two short months after Miles was deemed as likely never to play again in the NBA for medical reason – and subsequently bought out by the Portland Trail Blazers, with insurance picking up much of the tab and the dollars no longer counting against the luxury tax level for Portland for 2008-09 and 09-10 – he was able to have an "impressive" workout with the NBA champs.

Something here smells fishy. What is not detailed is exactly what "impressive" means (and yes, that term will remain in quotes because the veracity of it is much doubted). Was it impressive he can still touch the rim? Was it impressive he learned to dribble? Was he making three-pointers impressively? Or was he a dominating player, someone fulfilling a long forgotten expectation? Given much of the recent news in Miles' history, that's a little doubtful. Chances are this description of the workout were heard second-hand and might have been filtered through someone's eyes who either is incredulous it even happened or has some sort of stake in Miles doing well.

Giving Miles great benefit of the doubt, this kind of news has ramifications for the Blazers. If Miles does come back and play in the league insurance would no longer pay for his settlement and his salary would go back to counting against Portland's luxury tax level. At $9 million in each of the next two seasons, that's hardly chump change. Would it change how Portland looks a things? Would that amount of extra cash Paul Allen would have to potentially pay out on the luxury tax make a difference if the team was in position to need one more veteran piece, make one more acquisition?

Relax Blazer fans – probably not. The Blazers and Allen won't let this stand in their way. If Miles somehow does come back for another team Allen won't be happy about it, but it will be a cost of doing business.

lol you're dumb as fuck. even if he comes back (no player who got a career ending injury exception ever has) we'll still have a dumb ass amount of cap space or Raef's expiring contract for the trade deadline. Its curtains for the NBA, get over it and stop lickin male cocks.
