Three deadly shootings today in KC

The first day of spring erupted in gunfire across Kansas City today, with three deadly shootings in seven hours.

One of the shootings stemmed from an argument that broke out near a local nightclub that has been the scene of several violent incidents in recent months.

The first shooting occurred around 2:48 a.m. during a house party in the 2600 block of Lawn Avenue. Police said one victim was pronounced dead at a hospital, one was in critical condition and one had injuries that were did not appear to be life threatening.

Police spent this morning interviewing dozens of potential witnesses who were transported from the house to police headquarters.

Police learned of the second shooting when two victims showed up at Truman Medical Center at 3:19 a.m. Police said the incident had occurred about 10 minutes earlier when shots were fired from one car into another that was traveling on Eighth Street near Charlotte Street.

One victim died and another is in critical condition, police said.

The third homicide was reported around 9:40 a.m. by a woman who said she had arrived home to find her son shot to death in the 4000 block of Benton Boulevard.

Police have not released the identities of any of the victims, and no suspects were in custody today.

Police said the Eighth and Charlotte shooting was the result of an argument that started in a parking lot near sixth Street and Grand Boulevard. The lot is about a block north of the Xpressions nightclub, 220 Admiral Blvd. Police on Sunday were investigating whether those involved in the argument had been at the club.

At about the same time as the drive-by shooting, police were conducting traffic control outside Xpressions when a driver going in reverse hit five parked cars, including three police cars. Police said two security guards also were struck and complained of minor injuries. The driver was taken into custody after a short foot chase, police said.

The nightclub, formerly called NRG, was the subject of more than 100 police calls last year, mostly for complaints of disturbances. Neighbors had routinely complained about rowdy crowds and violence, including two shootings in the area.

NRG owner Del Hedgepath had agreed to sell the club by Nov. 30 but keep it upon until it was sold. After a large fight broke out in September that took more than two dozen police officers and pepper spray to get things under control, however, Hedgepath told police and city officials that he would close the club.

It reopened in late December under new owners and the name Xpressions.

I never understood why ppl want to act crazy when its nice out.
Cause they ain't got no damn sense, thats why! And just think...it ain't even summer yet. This is only a preview, we ain't got to the movie yet. STAYED TUNED.

Didn't think NORTH KANSAS CITY was like that.

Damn, Xpressions is like that? I've only been once (when it was still called NRG). Didn't care for it.

Maybe the idiots could quit trying to be gangsta, set their image aside, fight like real men, and walk away when it's over when it gets warm enough for them to venture outside???

There's a reason "urban" clubs don't stay open and that's because these morons shoot each other instead of just fighting like us douche bag, frat boy white guys.

It gets like that here every spring too...some cat came into pieres (one of the largest clubs in the midwest) and shot 2 people this past st. patrics day. Bunch of other random shooting.

i think the weather just brings everyone out of the house. Causing folks to bump into rivals more frequently
