same way here in the Central and the south end........everynight something malicious is goin down, but it never make the news........but in the Northend or certain parts of the west.......kiro 7 11 o'clock news all day......

Somethin vicious happens almost everywhere, every day. You could probably go to some po-dunk town in Iowa and some shit would be goin down, people just don't know about it. Robberies, assault, kidnapping, murder, rape, etc....That shit happens every day, all over the place, it's only "newsworthy" when it effects a large portion of the community. And that's not my opinion, that's how a lot of reporters justify what they report on.

Yes and no. There is a very definite geography to crime, one that changes very little from year to year. The most recent rankings out of the largest 355 cities in the USA had Tacoma at #33, Seattle at #65 and Portland at #71. When just talking about large cities i.e. over 500,000, both Seattle and Portland have VERY low crime rates. There were 24 homicides in the city of Seattle last year (less than half the amount of suicides). Detroit had 461.

The head shaking 'damn things is crazy out here' thinking is ridiculous when looking at what goes on out in the Midwest, South and East. It is a line of thinking that wants to justify the gangsta rap coming out of the NW as real. I'm not saying it's not, and I do love the music, but the Northwest does not have an image of a rough area and it never well, and the numbers verify that. How could you think Seattle or Portland is as rough with respect to the other major cities in the US.

People in those places don't have to talk about it to verify it exists.
