lol,it's not up to SMC to make stores order it.matter of fact ..SMC can't MAKE stores order anything..stores order according to public interest in their store...they spend money pre-ordering c.d's that they think they will sell

the strength of a label's sales reps can make the difference between whether your product does or doesn't get picked up by stores or more importantly chain accounts. however it is harder if you have no buzz and the buyer's never heard of you (ie: the difference between saeed giving you the consignment slip or telling you to come back in two weeks for your check).

btw this isn't a critique of SMC, i've never put anything out through them.

ok so theoretically right (i don't have any scan #'s in front of me) if an artist is only going to sell 10-20k, even 40k how much money is there to promote an artist? you have to factor in the distributor's distribution fee, the labels' administration fee, co-op money, pressing etc. on a small 50/50 p&d deal your break even point might be 8k units. if you're only gonna do 15k do you realistically think there's money to push an album super hard? or do you just put it out there and let it do what it does with minimal promotion (what a lotta indy's do). that's the reality of the indy game is for a lotta cat's it's about cutting corners and taking home whatever you can get after recoup.
