Well it can have a lot to do with a potential job. For instance if I ran a finance company I would like to know how financially responsible an applicant is with his own money. If he fucks off his own finances, will he give two shits about mine?

That is understandable, but sometimes credit checks dont tell the whole story abuot the way someone handles money. I have accounts in collections because i just didnt feel like paying. But as 2-0-Sixx said:

^^in a rare case like that I understand, but more and more places are doing this kind of check which is stupid as fuck, and imo, shouldn't be legal.
My buddy got turned down for a job as city painter because he had bad credit. Please explain that one to me.

And thats fine and dandy, but that doesnt explain what my credit score has to do with a potential job.

Its not for you to understand, it for the person who owns the busines to make decisions on who they want to hire based on whaterver criteria they decide is relevant to their business.

And if someone does come up with odd criteria in hiring practices for example, then that is nothing more than an oppertunity for you to come in and take advantage of his bad judgement and put him out of business by capitalizing on his mistakes.

Well maybe there was multiple similarly qualified applicants all applying for the same position so the owner decided to use credit scores as a distinguishing factor rather than arbitrarily hiring one over the rest, or using some less relevant form of selection such as potato sack races.
