i make smoke by making a new layer and doing a filter>render>clouds (just set your foreground and background color to the color you want the smoke, black and a grey for realistic smoke) then just use the eraser to erase where u dont want smoke. then to make it actually look like smoke, lower the opacity of the erase and and just erase parts of it slightly to make it transparent n shit

^^ i try to stay away from filters on cuz i havent learned to much about them yet

Stay clear of the majority of them. The only ones I probably use are unsharp mask and gausian blur.

AND WHAT I MEAN BY THAT IS TAKIN' THE SAME IMAgE, DUPLICATIN' IT, AND DOIN' DIFFERENT BLEND MODES AND EFFECTS AND LOWERIN' THE OPACITY OF EACH ONE(DEPENDIN' ON THE EFFECT AND BLEND MODE). FOR INSTANCE, YOU SHOULD SINgLE THE SUBJECT WITHOUT THE BAKgROUND AND THEN HAVE DUPLICATES OF THAT AND ALSO HAVE IT WITH HIM AND THE BAKgROUND.
