Cougar Dens in the bay
Balboa Cafe, San Francisco
"If you are aiming to score with a Rolls Royce cougar, this is where you want to go."
Cozmo's, San Francisco
"Great place to be hunted by groups of Cadillacs. Park yourself at the bar and prepare to be devoured."
Paradise Bay, Sausalito
"I was out in San Francisco area a couple weeks ago and was out to dinner with my wife and a few other couples and could not believe all the coug's out on the dance floor preying on unsuspecting young drunk guys. The restaurant (Paradise Bay) was in Sausalito and it was right on the bay. Just thought I'd let you know.....the jazz band really lends itself to suggestive dancing by all of the Bay Area Cougs."
Perry's, San Francisco
"Perry's is the spot to head for a mid-afternoon cougar encounter." UC's take: On a sunny day, park it outside, order a bloody and wait.
Momo's, San Francisco, CA
“Just across the street from where the Giant's play, this indoor/outdoor place attracts yuppie cougars who arrive in small packs. You might have to deal with fresh-out-of-college girls as well, but the older cougars are less shy. Before a game on a warm weekend is great, and after the same game is even better. Cougars are there for one game only, and it ain't in the stadium (but it does involve smacking balls on turf).”
The Saddlerack, Fremont, CA
“The Saddlerack in Fremont is full of both Urban Cougars and CIT's. Its a country bar/club w/ a mechanical bull, barber's chair and a dance floor packed w/ cougars!”
Shaboom, San Ramon, CA
“Shboom's night club , San Ramon California...all the cougars from Bing Crosby's and P.F. Chang go there to get there groove on!!!” House of Brews, Huntington Beach, CA “house of brews in huntington beach california..this den has all species of cougars and they are there any night of the week.. awsome hunting ground...hahaha check it out.”
The Round Up, Lafayette, CA
“They come down from the hills and woods of this upscale Contra Costa County community to see what they can drag home by the neck. It's a mixed bag at this casual bar, but I have seen cougars stalk young rugby players here on Thursday nights. Live music, frequently oldies, gets the coug-blood boiling. Good beer selection, and just 5 miles from Walnut Creek. Close to Starbucks on Mt. Diablo Boulevard.”
Choice’s, Benicia, CA
“O.K., the best damn cougar den I've encountered is in Benicia CA, and it is called CHOICE'S....always packed full of cougars or barracudas as we call'em in port towns...the first night we went there was with our italian friend vito, we are from Vallejo and Benicia typically has more respectable girls....we decide to go to choices a place none of us had been before...and to our surprise 90% of the ladies in there are 35+ and 90% of the dudes are less than 30...cougars of all financial classes (vallejo is right next door so coyotes abound) races, styles, a cougar heaven...they have no standards either...there were two midgets (they weren't the big headed ones but just extremeley short) one balck one mexican..all the cougars were dancing with them trying to decide who was the ultimate prey...the mexican takes off his shirt and the whole place erupts, all the cougs flock to him and the black one goes to sit down at the bar..our friend vito was staring dumbfounded and couldn't believe what he was seeing, aside from the dance floor hunt there was a 6 ft tall Bengal kissing a young black dude, every type of cougar and there prey imagineable...we didn't know the place was like this either but we played it off...our friend vito was never the same.....Choice's, at the bottom of first st., Benicia CA. 94510”
The Blue Pheasant, Cupertino, CA
“The Blue Pheasant has been in existence for over 30 years and carries its share of controversy due to the large crowds it draws in a mostly high end, very conservative, residential community (the restaurant sits in front of a golf course surrounded by multi-million dollar homes). However, almost every night, party-goers flock to the BP and dance to a bizarre mix of Disco, Oldies, Latin, and Hip-hop music. Of course, Cougars are well-represented in this mix.”
British Bankers Club, Menlo Park, CA
"Upscale Den like bar, but if you are looking for divorced rich Menlo/Atherton milf's......this is your place. During the holidays while in college, I used to love going to this joint and pissing off all of the 50-60 year olds trying to score. One glorious thanksgiving my buddy once got asked by a cougar to come home with him so she could dress him up like a fireman. But alas the Cougar did not tame the meat. Nice cheezy live bands on the weekends playing all the 80's hits."
Number One Broadway, Los Gatos, CA
“Thirties, Forties, Fifties and beyond, on Friday and Saturday nights they pack into this one-room bar, bump and grind in sweaty abandon to live staple bands like Pacific Standard Time (10-piece funk band - seems to be a connection between James Brown and pelvis thrusting with complete strangers). Mostly Caucasian and Asian.
This upstairs bar has a narrow deck wrapping 2 sides of the building, with an entrance at each end. Hang out near one or the other doorway and you'll meet every chick in the place as they slide out for some cool night air. There's a pool table squeezed in one corner with lots of Cougars open to instruction; get there early, chalk your name on the board, and let the attention come flowing to you.”
Steamer's Grill, Los Gatos, CA
"Los Gatos, renowned for it's wealth and snootiness, is a prime hunting ground for the Mercedes. Steamer's Grill, in particular on Thursdays. Nary a stool at the fine oak bar isn't adorned with Louis Vitton, Prada, or Kate Spade purses, most barely wide enough to hold the Virginia Slim Ultra light Menthol 120's and the spare pack. I've actually seen them hanging from the rafters like the vampires in The Lost Boys. Well worth the trip for happy hour to see them in their most primal state."
The Dead Fish, Crockett, CA
This little gem, tucked away in the armpit of the East Bay, has a restaurant bar that is crawling with Richmond / Vallejo cougs. The most common classifications spotted here are African, Asian, Coyote and a wide variety of clunky WASP/MILFish models*.
If you're not hunting Rolls Royces or Ferraris exclusively, or you want a change of pace from the faster-than-light San Francisco cougar dens, this place is definitely worth a poke. Prime hunting season occurs on summer weekends (or pretty much any weekend for that matter), when they usually flock to the bar in packs of 3s to enjoy the overrated view of the Carquinez Straits. Do not be wavered by their traveling in larger bands though, there's something about the air out there that focuses all of the cougs on the same prize: trying to hump you. If you prefer hunting for solo cougs, this place is better on weekdays in the late afternoon/early evenings, where there hasn't been a happy hour that's gone by with at least one coug waiting patiently at the bar by herself sipping a lemon drop.
*Beware: there have been, albeit extremely infrequently, Saber Tooth sightings here. We think this rare and sought-after breed might stop in at The Dead Fish during her bi-yearly migrations from San Francisco to the Napa wine country.
Meenar Music Club, Danville
"This small town bar is packed with cougars of all kinds... Rolls Royces all the way to Taurus' in one spot. All these cougs have one thing in common, however; they come alive to the sound of live music. It's our experience that the cougars here are particularly aggressive and love parking lots and SUVs."
P.F. Chang's China Bistro, Walnut Creek
"If you like Chinese food and single, independent women, this is where you want to be on Thursday nights."
Slates Supper Club, Walnut Creek
"Quite a swanky cougar den. All you'll find in here is either Rolls Royce or Cadillac cougs. Thursday night especially attracts them. They come in looking for young rich ballplayers from the Oakland A's and Warriors. These cougs are partial to Mochatinis, Chardonnay and mojitos, just in case you need cougar bait."
BING CROSBY'S RESTAURANT AND PIANO BAR
***EDITORS NOTE*** we here at uc.com received so many emails about the ubrbancougar activity in Walnut Creek the staff did some field work one Thursday evening to see what all the talk was about. Lets just say we were presently surprised with the action, especially at this little spot. So many cougs that we almost got whip lash checking them all out. Good spot....
