IPIm nailed it... rap is black music that survives in the marketplace by it's huge white following. But the white buyer doesn't dictate the taste... blacks do and AandR's somewhat, and that's where you're partially correct Artistic. I say, unless you want a huge mainstream audience, just make music you think is good.

in my opinion, hip-hop is black music just like the blues is black music.

Hip-hop was created by black people and is dominated by black people.

Just like oragami is a japanese art form even though other races do oragami. It's still a japanese art form. (might have been an odd example)

i was just surprised by the controversy my response caused. i figure most of yall not gonna agree with my point because well this message board is mostly white people. But im not trying to insult white people with this idea. i just think it's fact.
No. Just because a certain race created something, doesn't mean they own it. Use Martial Arts for example, created by Asians now practised all around the world.

Asians didn't create martial arts, they created Gong Fu, Karate, Tai Kwan Doe, and many other fighting systems different races practice today. Doesn't mean those arts aren't Asian culture, and on the flip it doesn't mean other groups can't be into those martial arts either.

Ninjutsu, Jiu Jutsu, Judo..... and so on.

When saying Martial Arts, I am speaking of these as they created the majority of them.

They created a culture, other people like that culture, then those people use that culture in their lives.

Thats a different topic that im not gonna address in this thread. Maybe you should make a thread to discuss that topic.
Did you not say this in your OP?

so off the top of my head, i responded well hip-hop is black music so i think whatever race you are if you're gonna be successful in hip-hop your music should appeal to black people.
Go back and re-read my posts... they are 1000% on topic.

actually what you're trying to discuss is what race purchases the most rap music which is a different topic.

thats not a topic i feel like getting into because i already know what every single one of you is gonna say.

LOL...really? With all due respect, maybe you need a reading comprehension course. Just sayin.

What I am ACTUALLY doing, is responding to something you said:

"if you're gonna be successful in hip-hop your music should appeal to black people".

I responded to that by saying that if you want to be a successful hip-hop artist, you need to appeal to WHITE people, not black people. Why? Because white people make up the majority of the market share for purchasing not only music in general, but hip-hop music specifically.

thats not a topic i feel like getting into because i already know what every single one of you is gonna say.
How is that NOT on topic when i responded to YOUR exact word in YOUR initial post???

you're assuming all white people are the same thought.

John Meyer people aren't necessarily Tech N9Ne white people which arent necessarily Eminem white people who might not be Justin Beiber white people.

did that even make sense?
