Please help.

I formatted and installed Windows XP on mymachine. All is well except no sound. Device Manager shows Multimedia Audio Controller is not installed. I have no idea what driver I need.

Under sound/video, etc.it shows several audio components including Audio Codecs, Legacy Audio Drivers, WDM TVAudio, all listed as working properly.

Do I have to pull my sound card to find out the manufacturer info? We built this machine a long time back and I don't have any of the CD's that it could need.

I've tried using Windows update and there is no driver available. The only lovely sound we get is the "beep" -- which is even more annoying than the AOL Instant Messenger sounds!

Any input is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

If you run some system diagnostics on it you can tell what the sound card is. Otherwise just pull the tower off and look at it. You could try installing a generic audio driver.
