Erickson sees nothing but a bright future for Woods.
Rookie wide receiver Rashaun Woods impressed the 49ers enough in college for the team to grab him in the first round. And now, after seven total practices with the team, he impresses the coaching staff all over again.
“Rashaun is a different guy now because he knows what he’s doing. He’s been around here ever since our first camp was over with,” Dennis Erickson said. “As far as learning the terminology, what happens a lot of times is those guys come in and they are supposed to run a 14-yard out route and they are thinking about what the name of that route is, so they aren’t quite as explosive.
“What he’s showed the last couple of days is that he knows what he’s doing and he can really run routes. He’s a very polished guy. He’s a guy that’s really jumped out at me probably more than anybody here in the last couple practices.”
Bad News, Good News
The bad news of the day was Bryant Young leaving practice with what Erickson called a “tweaked ankle”. The good news is that the injury is not serious and the head coach expects Young to be back at practice soon, possibly even as soon as Friday.
The other good news, according to Erickson, was the pace of Thursday’s practice.
“I thought we were a little sluggish yesterday. I thought our tempo was a heck of a lot better today, as far as the speed of practice,” Erickson said. “That’s kind of what we were looking for. Our retention has been good. We’ve done some different things, but our retention on both sides of the ball has been very good.”
