Prior to his conversion from paganism in the fourth century, there were many sects of "Christians" all claiming to have witnessed the miracles foretold in the Bible (and it's just the Bible, OK? No Testaments. The Bible is recognized by Judaism, Christianity & Islam, who each have their own additions: the Talmud, the New Testament & the Quran). Anyway, out of the many sects claiming to have witnessed the miracles of the Christ, Constantine chose the one who claimed the messiah (Christ) was a young carpenter named Yeshua of Nazareth. His life fit the patterns foretold by the prophets in a way that allowed Constantine to "rewrite" it to fit his own needs. He convened the Council of Nicea, where 300 holy men decided to turn Yeshua (his Semitic name) into Jesus (his Roman name) because they wanted people to forget he was a Jew (and a rabbi, by the way) and name him the Son of God instead of the Son of Man. They threw out all the Gospels that had been written except four because the others mentioned the fact that Jesus had been married and had children (which made him mortal). They also added lots of stuff that made it "sinful" not to believe the way the new church told you to believe. Suddenly, this new religion had the backing (aka armies) of an emperor and the rest is the history that atinymonkey was referring to

That may or may not be so. I'll use Sixx's argument. Unless you where there it's pure speculation.

1) I don't believe Jesus to be a carpenter. The word is a mistranslation.
2) I've PM'ed Heresy he told me Jesus wasn't a Rabbi although I believe he was. So that's up to interpretation.
3) How can you forget he was a Jew? The bible even tells you he would be a Jew. No Messiah can be anything other than a Jew.
4) He went by both Son of Man and Son of God. Even the Jews acknowledge this centuries before the council took place.
5) So being married and having children made him mortal but being born and being able to bleed and die didn't? What other gospels are you speaking of? Give me proof he had a wife and kids. Just the exerpt will do.
6) What new stuff did they add?
7) If this religion needed the backing of an Army why was it flourishing even under persecution? Why did it go from about 20 people to x amount without being wiped out?

it's your religion, you research it. it's already obvious that there is more to the religion than what they teach you in sunday school. especially about the pre-christian pagan religions that christianity stole their ideas from.

I have undenianble proof that Christianity and Judaism did not steal a thing from any other religion.

And from the Atheism set comes: disbeleif, wanting, animosity, confrontation.

I realize you were trying to get on a "know" trip, but its not going to work. I am smart enough to realize "know" is a bad word to use in a religious discussion. Rephrase your questions using my REAL WORDS (instead of shit you are twisting to your own benefit), and i will humor you.

Do some fucking research of Atheism you fuckin crack pot. You can't use the word know in a religious argument, because either way, NOBODY knows, so either way, it's all a bunch of opinion and comes down to the individual. You might disagree with Atheism, but you can't prove that God exists. So quit talkin shit, all you're doin is spoutin off tryin to do what you always do....

@Sixx
God doesn't need to "exist", you pot-smoking lemming. God is a philosophy, not an as-yet-discovered species from the Amazon rainforest.

lol @ pot-smoking lemming....you're such a fuckin joke. God is something that people are continuousy tryin to prove, but the exitance of any kind of God can not be proven. Back to the "depends on who you ask" shit...To some people God may "exist," but to you God doesn't. You say things like they are general facts when it's really just your own opinion...

why? that is the truth, and if you knew history, you would know about the politics and religion of constantine. prove it wrong if you think otherwise. you will be the first to do so.

THE *FACT* THAT YOU CONFUSE TRITHEISM WITH THE TRINITY DOCTRINE SHOWS THAT YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT THIS TOPIC, HISTORY, POLITICS AND RELIGION OF CONSTANTINE. IT'S *EASY* TO CUT AND PASTE FROM VARIOUS "ANTI" SITES. IT'S ALSO EASY TO ASK A TEACHER WHO DOESN'T KNOW LEFT FROM RIGHT BUT WHO SUGAR COATS IT....

PLEASE READ FOR YOURSELF SHEP.

BTW RESEARCH "SON OF MAN" BEFORE YOU MAKE REFERENCE TO IT.

eipon oun umin oti apoqaneisqe en taiV amartiaiV umwn: ean gar mh pisteushte oti ego eimi, apoqaneisqe en taiV amartiaiV umwn.

Not the best Greek translation of John 8:24. But the highlighted should be noted. Christ was almost killed for saying this.

John 20:27-28

27
Then he said to Thomas, "Put your finger here and see my hands, and bring your hand and put it into my side, and do not be unbelieving, but believe."
28
17 Thomas answered and said to him, "My Lord and my God!"

Greek John 20:28
apekriqh qwmaV kai eipen autw, o kurioV mou kai o qeoV mou.

The highlighterd part translates to:
My Lord and My God.
Ο κύριος και ο Θεός μου
or
Ο Λόρδος και ο Θεός μου

Greek = English = Copied and Pasted Portion
Θεός = God = qeov
μου = My= mou
και = and = kai
κύριος = master = kuriov
