Manson served nine life terms in California prisons and was denied parole 12 times.
Charles Manson, leader of murderous cult, dead at 83 - CNN

Looking back, I've realized Manson really wouldn't be shit if he did that stuff today. Seems like our level of crazies has intensified since '69. He'd get some press coverage for about a month or two, especially since we idolize celebrities so having a Sharon Tate equivalent murdered would be a big deal, but not for long. Maybe some talk during the trials, but the media would be off to the next psycho, the next school shooter of the month and move on. He certainly wouldn't have become some notorious super villain.

Dude was a nut but not nearly as mad as people made him out to be. He played the shit up for the media, to become a celebrity himself. He was a bit of a loser truth be told, a failure at becoming a successful celebrity himself.

Charlie happily married in '55.

Manson on trial.

As time went on behind bars, he appeared "crazier and crazier " but it was mostly all an act. He wanted to stay relevant.
