How long have you been producing?

I’ve seriously been doing it since ’98. I actually started off rhyming and then got into the beats around ’96. I saw my man make em and then I saw how he did it. You know the pause/stop mixing and stuff and then gradually worked up. Later on I got into it a lot more. I started to take it more seriously. By 2000 I said I’d rather be a producer than an emcee. It was more fun and the energy was transferred.

How did you get involved with A Touch of Jazz?

Grap Luva gave me the addy to Hidden Beach records to this A&R he knew. He was like; “My man askin for beats.” Actually Grap was he was supposed to send his beats but he never sent any so he gave me the addy. I was never the dude to send demos like I’m trying to get on. But I guess from Grap knowing him was a good connect. I just wrote on the cd that “Grap said send some stuff.” A couple of weeks later someone hit me up and said we feeling your tracks and then I got a call from Jill’s fiancé/manager. He was like “Yo, Jazzy want you come to Philly to do this and that,” and that’s how it happened.

How was it?

It was cool. I didn’t go with any expectations. I played some beats, took my ‘Parents Just Don’t Understand’ vinyl to get signed. But then came to find out he was feeling the tracks!
