When someone is requesting a CD-R, what does that mean to you? Does it mean, create a music cd that has .mp3's on it (data cd) or create a music cd from the original that is an exact copy (audio cd)?
Read the story below...

Recently I posted my wishlist of titles I was looking for, and for the most part I had them all fullfilled! Although there was one trade that went wierd. I don't know about you guys, but when I want a CD-R of a cd release, I'm looking to get an exact copy of the original. That means the person who is replying to my post or messaging me with a the list of the titles they have available should have the originals or an exact copy of the originals, or for the most part at least know how to burn cd's!
Ok, so here's the story... I received a package of 15 super rare CD-R's that I have been looking for. I was stoked, I paid a good peeny for them, but I was happy. I got around to taking a couple into my car to bump them around town, although none of the cd's would work in my car. That's strange, so I went back home, threw them into my computer, and all the cd's turned out to be .mp3 discs. It turns out the guy made data copies, not music copies. So I figured I would email him, and let him know the trouble I was having. I told him I would pay him for the shipping, I would just like the cd's made correctly.
Here is his response...

"You weren't able to play them in your car? for real? I checked some of them on my CD player & my DVD to see if they would play (if there were any skips etc.), and they all played fine. Infact I thought that most CD Players can only play songs in MP3 format.
By the way, what do you mean by "copies of the original CD"? do you mean a rip of the album? or copying the exact CD with the inserts & everything?
I own some of the originals, but many of them I got from my friends who have the original."

Here is my reply to this...

Regular cd players can only play music cd's, you sent me .mp3 cd's that are data! I'm looking for an exact copy of the cd, not the artwork or the inserts, the cd! When you make an exact copy, you put the original disc in the cd drive, select the disc copier feature if you're using Roxio, then it makes an exact copy. I don't know what program you're using to burn your cd's, but it's creating data cd's! Do you have the original cd's to make copies from, or are the cd's you have already in .mp3 form? I already had .mp3's for all of these cd's, I was just looking for exact copies of the originals...
For example when I put the Playa G cd in my computer this is how the tracks read... they are all in .mp3 form!

001-Murderer.mp3
002-Fake Ass Bustas.mp3
003-Fuck The Trunk.mp3
004-Drink A Yak.mp3
005-Pimpin' Ain't Easy.mp3

Here is his reply to the above email...

"I was using Nero to burn your CDs, and I made sure I made an Audio CD, and not a Data CD. But the thing I don't get is, in what format does lets say Roxio copy the exact CD? is it MP3, WAV? Because from my experience, the only format that can be plaid in CD Players is MP3, that’s why I intentionally burned all your CDs in MP3 Format.
Let Me Know in which format do you need them, and we can work something out."

This guy still thinks .mp3 can be played in a regular cd player! How can I explain this to him so he understands it? I hope this will do it! Am I being too technical for this guy? Am I asking him to do to much for me? Just let me know what you think guys! Oh yeah here is my most recent email to him...

I understand that tape only releases will of course be in .mp3 format, I'm not worried about those ones, I'm talking about the cd releases...
If you made exact copies I would have no problem playing them in my cd player, but you made .mp3 discs from the originals. Go try and play an .mp3 disc in a regular cd player and it will not work. Cd players read .cda files, you can see that by putting an original cd in your drive, then in windows explorer click on the drive your cd is in. If your computer is set to tell you the file extensions, then it will read...
Track01.cda
Track02.cda
Track03.cda And so on...

If you have Roxio Easy CD Creator, there is an exact disc copier function. It is used for making perfect copies of music cd's PS2 & XBOX games, also DVD's! Instead of clicking on the icon on your desktop you go to your start button, press start, go to programs, then Roxio, and then click on Disc Copier. That is the only way to make a perfect copy of a cd.
If you're using Nero, there may be the same feature, just go to Nero under your programs and try to locate their disc copier function?
If you figure it out let me know. Thanks!

not sure what cda files are, but the exact file of the audio should be .aiff files on the mac, and i think .wav on windows. tell him use wav format and it should be good.

It may show up as .aiff files when you look at an original cd with a mac, but with windows, it is a .cda file... .wav is a windows audio file, but that is not the way you make a correct cd-r.
Just look at the image below, it clearly shows an original music cd consits of .cda files...

yeah, that's how it appears, but if you extract the audio files to your computer you should end up with .wav files. look at the size of those you high lighted, they're 1kb, the actual files will be on average of 40-50 megabytes each.

Many new Cd players, especially car stereos, can also read mp3s. That is why many cats can't separate the two files from each other, other than the size of the files.
I thought every Cd burner program could make a direct copy. anyway, most programs can convert any mp3 file to a regular sound file like .wav. If you have any jurrassic burner program without that feature go to donwload.com and get audiograbber.

Like identyty-x said, if this was 98... But then again, a couple of years ago I bought Hi-C Skanless from a US seller who claimed it was a "white promo". When I got it it was a CDR with a white label with hand-written "Hi-C skanless" on it. When I confronted the seller with it she told me that "in fact it is not possible to copy CDs because they come with copy protection"... That was around 2002 or something

wow...if it was 1998 I might expect this sort of thing, but...
Str8 up G!!!

When ever I'm make copies of my original cd's I use Alcohol 120 copy the disc onto the hard drive as a Image then burn the Image onto the CD-R. This insures that it's an exact copy of the burnt disc.
