For straight vectoring you want the pen tool, I got confused. But if you want your shit looked airbrushed yeah you use a soft brush. For that effect I paint over the face with a neutral skintone and use the dodge and burn for lightening and darkening cheekbones and nostrals etc.

so i take it i'm gonna need one of those pads (i forget what they are called)?

A tablet, you don't need one, if you're really good at drawing on paper it'll help a lot, but you don't need one for the pen tool.

yea i'm good at drawing but what i kind of wanted to do somethin along the lines of what discuss650 is doin except with the pen tool like everyone else was sayin. i thought about drawing it first tho. but it sounds like i would need a wacom pad tho to do it that other way.

I need one, had one for a few months but my son got ahold of the pen and broke it. They're cool for certain things, but you will find yourself switching between the pen and mouse alot for certain things.

that's good to know

i'll probably just buy a wacom pad and just do my drawings on there or my tracings on there because from what i was told with some of those pads you can put the pic under part of the pad and literally trace that or somethin like that.

you can, but it doesn't work exactly that great. You'll find yourself tracing looking at your screen and not the image since the image wont be always exactly lined up right.
