You CAN insure your car even if it isn't registered to you, I know because I just bought 2 cars and they are both insured even though I haven't finished the registration. The DMV site will tell you exactly what you will need to pay but for one of the cars I have I paid less than 200 for the taxes and I bought the car for 1,800. I owed 300 on the other car because the registration was overdue by a month and I paid 2,000 for it. Smog should be around $50 and when transferring a title you have to have it smogged no matter what unless the owner smogged it within 60 days of selling it.

well i was gonna go on a cross country trip in a couple weeks...looks like ill be canceling that and instead paying the dmv hundreds of dollars to allow me to own and drive a vehicle....sweeeeeeeet!!!!!!!!!

ps - so how does the dmv get away with robbing people of their money? anyone down to rodney king riot on dmvs? i would love to bash a dmv window with all my force
