We need a street dj out here who brings that hard street flavor but its not possible if they dont come from that lifestyle. I havent seen many djs out here that come from da hood. Somebody that represents for the streets and actually stay connected in da streets with whats hot or not. Thats what i like about eastcoast, they support their djs/artists. The so called djs out here are scared to go anywhere near the hood!! the music is too gangsta for them. they only have a club music syndrome.

DJ MARK 7 You always got that crazy sig your a clown.

The thing with tHe east Coast Djay's is they started with real tapes, and the folks who made em werent really trying to make money, they just used it as a tool to get their name and the artists they like names out. Im not sure If slay got his Radio show before or after mix tape fame But I know ONe Helps the other. Consistancy and Originality are Key For A MIX TAPE DJ

nobody's mentioned the "Gumbo Mixes" yet , Macadoscious Nutt got some skills and has been puttin it down for at least 5 years..they're all the way up to # 18 now...but i see the latest ones havin more east coast on there...the best ones in my opinion are 1 thru 10 which are pretty much mostly west coast (LA and the bay),down south and r-n -b songs....these are must haves!!

peace,
Dubl-Z

Check the sig folks.... I'm trying to put it down every time with the hardness and keep it real... back to back bumps... but on the real, you aint gonna get no Kay Slay style over here, let the joints do the talking, not the deejays big mouth, the real job is to keep tha beat going... 1

no disrespect to anyone posting on this but... this idea is hard pressed to work for a number of simple facts. these are my experiences/lessons from the last few months.

1.most bay area artists aren't balled out, so most won't do shit for free. ie; freestyles, mixtape songs etc. a few will who are on the mixtape hype (ie balance, frontline), but most major independant artists wont. and if they do give you something for free, don't expect the shit to be original.

2.bay area artists don't want their singles on a mixtape, and it comes back to the money issue. if someone puts out a mixtape and makes money off of it, then it is generally seen as taking out of someone's pocket rather than helping them.

3.the value of mixtapes as promotional materials is not understood very well.

4.there is... i say this hesitantly... a selfish attitude in the bay in general where it is I before we. everyone is worried about their own pockets and could care less about the next man.

all this is directed at no one in general.

i think i've said this before, but dj vlad's a turf hopper and a sucka b/c he doesn't know shit about the west really... mad idiot/gumbo mixes are cool, but i can't find their shit in any of the stores i go to, and same for mark 7. again, no disrespect meant, but what good is a cd that only 100 people hear?
