cage fell the fuck off harder than almost any rapper i can think of
his legacy will go down as illest white rappers to ever do it
i will give him that
but hellz winter beyond, he fell the fuck off
the last noticible trace of cage was on the def jux weathermen ep with him holding a sherm stick in his mouth on the cover
when he stopped smoking dips his music got wack. i dont know what drug if any he substituted it for that also added to his new style of clothing and hair....but whatever it is didnt work well for his music. thats just imo it mighta opened him up to new fans tho he can probably do lil lollapolloza bullshit now cuz he looks the part
but i really dont listen to shit cage has done album wise beyond movies for the blind, which to me was better than any eminem album but yet ive never been a eminem fan
edit: he does have a few cool songs here and there but he turned to 'atmosphereish' to me or something.
lol @ atmospherish. you cant compare anything cage has done to atmosphere. and have you heard this ep? its better than hells winter, kinda has traces of darkness, and mentions stoney lodge again. so i dunno. its reminiscent of old cage but more evolved
good call on movies for the blind.... good album. do you have his agent orange mixtape? thats another one of my favorite cage releases
I'm not feelin his new shit the whole emo punk thing it's such a far leap from where he came from as a rapper like Killer Mike said...dudes think they're too good for this rap shit. He thinks because he stopped doing drugs that he's above doing traditional hip hop or something. I wouldn't even say he's evolved as an artist it's more like a transition to other genre's of music more than anything.
thatguy, cage is wack now.
if you like him cool but yeah.
and yeah ive got a bunch of cage shit from back in the days, my boy interviewed him for like 40 minutes too which was a good listen

If you like his music cool, more power to you. My problem is when people start saying things like "he's real hip hop" or "he's helping the culture evolve" and in the samebreath diss mainstream/southern/gangster rappers for supposedly destroyiing hip hop. When you have this cat who pretty much comes off like he's ashamed of the traditional hip hop music he's made in the past, and then jumps ship (hip hop) to do this Emo Punk Rock shit.
i just heard that video someone posted that shit was bo bo
the album in my sig was slap but once again, he was still on drugs at that point
edit: and hes not even on that song but that whole album was tight. i was gettin fucked up when that shit was out so i can relate
i think what happened was he was tryna kinda do what camu tao was doin before he died which is appeal to the mainstream a little..i know they was homies and roomates and shit
i heard some kid came up to him at a show with some sherm and wanted to smoke with him. so he stopped rapping about and taking drugs, dunno though for sure.
that vid posted in here isnt a good example, heres a good example of the album
maybe he switched from dip to smack...cuz he has more draws in his voice now.
Listened to the EP a few days ago. I like it. Itz different. I tend to be more excepting to artist that i like evolving. It pulls out different creative shit out of them. But defiently nothing like the old cage.
Always gonna like the old cage better. But i can still rock the new shit. He still got a dope voice to me.
i was reading some other forum and i guess either camu taos death/birthdate passed or cage just felt like writing a myspace about remembering him..well in the blog he kinda goes off on vast aire sayin camu didnt like him blah blah...well vast aire basically responded and sonned him and aired out how shady he is and then said hed fuck him up and 'slap his bitch haircut off his head' and cage responded and apologized lmao
i lost a small tad of respect for cage after reading that shit..and i dont even like vast aire like that..the blogs down but ill see if i can find the shit later
hes just hits me as one of them emo kids now with them weird haircuts that be all in they faces....i dunno....i think ill listen to the album for the fuck of it though
DAMN I DONT EVEN KNOW WHAT TO SAY. THIS ALBUM WAS A FAILURE TO ME. IM ALMOST SAD BECAUSE I BOUGHT IT.
Its rare nowadays that i highly anticipate someones album. And this was one of the few i was really waiting for to drop.
I cant bash it completely cause it was still a creative album. and had some catchy shit. But as for being a dope rapper and rippin shit. He was just not there at all. and the rock tone definently didn't help. Sound like he just put a needle in his arm before he hit the booth.
IMO the free shit he gave away on his EP was better than this whole cd.
I guess you can't be tight forever. Every dog has his day.
