The Los Angeles Times reported that the dance, which looks like "hopscotch on crack", is usually performed to fast-tempo hip-hop and rap music, and has caught on among teenagers nationwide.

But educators in Los Angeles fear that allowing students to do the dance at the annual school dance will glamorise gang life and could trigger retaliation from rivals such as the Bloods, even if most youngsters C-walking are not in the Crips, or any gang at all. Teenagers say the dance will cause a fight only if performed in the wrong neighbourhood and while flashing hand signs. They dance it for fun and consider it a badge of honour to master its complicated moves. Rap stars popularised it - hopping on tiptoes from foot to foot in a circular pattern with knees bent.

The dance is just one fad banned by schools. Many schools have ruled out grinding, "freakin'" or other sexually explicit dance moves. Others have banned music with obscenities or sexually explicit words.

Even the dance team at my school does a little C-Walkin in their routine....People that aren't caught up in gang life, don't care...To them, it's JUST a dance....And people make a big deal out of shit....How about if you don't like it, don't say shit, who fuckin' cares? I admit I think it's dumb for someone who is not a Crip to be C-Walking....But to each his/her own...Let people do what they want....It's not anyone's place to tell them what to do.

This shit has just gotten way out of hand. I seen this white girl trying to teach her friend how to c-walk. I must admit it though she was actually doing the damn thing. Spelling out crip like what. But her hands were doing some Britney type moves. If she would have had thrown up signs at the same time it would have been way too much. I'll say it's gottten commercialised but, just don't do it at the wrong place at the wrong time if you aint' a G. And about "it's not anyones place to tell them what to do", explain that to the authorities when shit goes down.

Well, it's their own fault....Take responsibility for your actions...I personally don't care either way....It's a tight dance, but I see both sides of it...I can see why people that aren't Crips should C-Walk....It's a gang thing...But I can see why people do it...It's a cool little dance....But it really isn't anyone's place to say if they can do it or not...If they get beat up or whatever for it....That sucks for them, but they chose to do it.....

It just annoys me that people are turning lifestyles they know nothing about into gay little trends....when the fact is most would piss their pants if they got stranded in the type of neighborhood the lifestyle they think is so cool comes from.

this is anpother example of delayed reaction

If this isn't proof that the educators of america are also on drugs, I don't know what is

I don't understand how come they didn't banned it a few yrs back when it was considered by youngsers as the CRIP walk as opposed to now the c-walk/dance

See and that's the thing alot of muthafuccaz just do that dance and aren't reppin'... The dance means more to some people than just a dance. Bacc in the day it wasn't somethin' that someone was doin'... It was only Crips... When I see muthafuccaz C-Walkin' I tell 'em to spell their set and shit like that... If they don't have a set to spell then they shouldn't doin' it... At least not in front of Bloods or Crips...
