Bridge managers today approved raising tolls by at least a dollar on the seven state-owned bridges in the Bay Area beginning July 1. Tolls will go from $4 to $5 on the Richmond-San Rafael, Zampa, Benicia, Antioch, Dumbarton and San Mateo bridges.
The San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge will see tolls rise from $4 to $6 during peak commute times. During non-commute hours on weekdays, the toll will remain at $4 on the Bay Bridge. It will cost $5 to cross the bridge on weekends.
Carpoolers will now have to pay $2.50 during commute hours on all seven bridges.
Bay Area Toll Authority managers say the changes will raise $160 million in additional revenue needed to pay for seismic retrofits on the Antioch and Dumbarton bridges. The extra funds also will offset higher borrowing and operating costs.
The Golden Gate Bridge, which is run by a separate agency, will not be affected.
