I've never heard of them. Both are 6 round fights so I'm guessing they are young up & comers. Let me check...

Ivan Popoca
8 (KO 7) + lost 0
26 years old
Residence: Chicago, Illinois
birth place: Guerrero, Mexico

vs

Daniel Garcia
9 wins - 5 losses

Andrzej Fonfara
10 (KO 3) + lost 2
age - 21
Residence: Chicago, Illinois
birth place: Warsaw, Poland

vs

Terrence Wilson
5 (3) - 4

Looks like it's card of a couple home town (chicago) fighters on the rise against fairly easy opponents. It looks at first glance that this is kind of a building of these young hometown fighters, getting them some ring experience. Ivan Popoca looks to be the more promising of the two.

Here is an article I found from a year ago with a lil more info on him...

Ivan Popoca Battles in Chicago

The 25 year old Popoca, a former amateur standout has been training diligently at Pesoli’s JABB BOXING GYM every day with WBC Lightweight Champion David Diaz.

“David has been a mentor to me for a long time. His track record of success is what I’m trying to emulate. We’re friends, but when it comes to helping me train or sparring its all business.”

Added Popoca, “I’m thrilled to get back in the ring this Friday night. The fans have been very supportive since I turned pro early last year. “

A construction worker by day, Popoca ran his amateur record to 137-13

prior to turning professional. His amateur record includes success in the Silver Gloves and the Junior Olympics.

About his future, the modest Popoca stated, “One fight at a time; however this one is my last at welterweight. We’re going at 145 on this one and then I’m going down to junior welterweight.”

I still cant find the undercards for the Margarito vs Mosley fight.

They just released $25 seats a couple of days ago. I got a pair of $75 tickets the day they went on sale. I don't think they are moving very fast...especially since Affliction is in Anaheim that same night. Oh well, I rather be at the Staples for this one...

Yeah Michael Katsidis is a fun fighter to watch. Even though he lost his fight with Casamayor was a classic. I'm trying to figure out if this will be televised. If not I'm sure there will be online streams availible.
yeah it was a great fight. hopefully this fight will be on tv. i know this fight was a while ago but did you by chance notice the guy who looked exactly like paul bearer in the like the 5th row ringside. i couldnt focus on the fight.

I think this might be Mosley's last fight. Or maybe he'll come back late this year or next year for one last farewell... I just see him getting dominated from rounds 3 through 10 and then it being stopped. I can't see how he's going to win this fight. He's not that fast anymore.

yeah mosley is going to get fucked up. he looked old against mayorga up till the very end. Like I heard someone else say, his corner better bring the ShamWow to soak up all the blood between rounds!

Also reminder tonight on ESPN2, Yuriorkis Gamboa the hottest prospect in the game is fighting. Solis another Cuban prospect is on as well and Bernard Hopkins will be in studio apparently with some sort of announcement or probably going to call out his next opponent.

Bernard Hopkins Hired By ESPN For Boxing Analyst Position

Bristol, CT - Future Hall of Fame middleweight and light heavyweight great Bernard Hopkins has been hired by ESPN as a "boxing analyst" for the 2009 season of ESPN2 Friday Night Fights. Hopkins, who will make a series of regular appearances on the show, will handle his first assignment tonight alongside ESPN longtime host Brian Kenny for the FNF season debut featuring Cuban rising stars Yuriorkis Gamboa, Odlanier Solis and Erislandy Lara from Terrible's Primm Valley Casino Resorts in Primm, Nevada.
Hopkins will make regular appearances on the show and is excited to work with Kenny to hone his broadcasting skills.

"We anticipate that Bernard will add an entertaining and knowledgeable element to our Friday Night Fights coverage," said Matt Sandulli, ESPN senior coordinating producer for Friday Night Fights.

"This is an area I have wanted to get in to for some time as everyone knows I like to talk, and definitely have an opinion," Hopkins said shyly. "I will train as hard for this job as I do for my fights and hope to deliver the same championship results that have been part of my career. I appreciate ESPN giving me the opportunity and look forward to working with Brian Kenny, who is one of the best broadcasters in the business, to hone my skills and develop my broadcasting talent."

January 17, Saturday Night
At Biloxi, Miss. (HBO): Andre Berto vs. Luis Collazo, 12 rounds, for Berto's WBC welterweight title
What ya'll think about this fight?

I think Collazo is a very good opponent for Berto, he is a real test. He's not the most skilled fighter out there, but he's only lost 3 fights, once to Shane Mosley a couple years ago, another against Ricky Hatton (matter of fact though he was whoopin on Ricky Hatton and probably should have got the decision) and one early in his career.

I think it's going to be a good fight. But Berto should get the decision or possibly even a late TKO

Luis Collazo
29 (KO 14) - lost 3
