Damn Top Rank is really talking to Showtime about bringing Lomachenko there. Arum seems to hate Nelson

I don't know.... Arum sounded confident that it would be made. Just that HBO was being stubborn

Each network knows how much it will cost, Arum said, and Lomanchenko and Walters both know how much they'll make. GREAT fight.

Arum tells me he'd like to place the fight in New York or Chicago, where there's big Ukrainian populations. Postol on undercard.

Povetkin team wins Wilder purse bid: $7.15 million. DiBella only other bid offered $5,101.00.42. Wow! #boxing

Apparently dibella is saying they are WILLING to fight in Russia:

Lou dibella: "If they put fight in Russia then I hope Mr. Putin can personally attend so he can watch Sasha get KO'd".

World Of Boxing Wins Wilder-Povetkin Purse Bid
Updated at 12:33 PM EST, Fri Feb 26, 2016 Read More By :

By Jake Donovan

Andrey Ryabinsky's World of Boxing (WoB) has secured the rights to promote the World Boxing Council (WBC) heavyweight title fight between unbeaten champ Deontay Wilder and mandatory challenger Alexander Povetkin.

WoB - Povetkin's promoter - submitted a winning amount of $7.15 million during Friday's purse bid hearing at Grand Hyatt Miami in Miami, Florida. The only other bidder present was representatives from DiBella Entertainment, Wilder's promoter who submitted just over $5.1 million.

There is no date or venue set for the fight, despite speculation that Wilder will now have to head to Russia for his next title defense. It could very well be the case, but was not immediately established at the purse bid hearing.

"World of Boxing has won the purse bid and how has 15 days to return to us the fight contracts with the date and location of the championship fight," WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman told BoxingScene.com immediately after the purse bid on Friday. "The fight must take place within the next 90 days (May 26, 2016)."

I'm digging the bonus 10% from the WBC

WBC Announces Escrow Policy For Purse Bid Results

Today in Miami, the WBC is conducting a purse bid for the WBC World Heavyweight Championship, with Champion Deontay Wilder facing mandatory challenger Alexander Povetkin.

The WBC has proudly instituted a new rule that for all WBC bouts that go to purse bid, 10% of the total amount is reserved to be paid as a bonus to the winner of the fight. Historically, boxers competed in “winner take all” fights, but the sport in modern times changed, so now the boxers receive amounts set before the fight, with no added incentive to the winner.

The WBC believes that for the benefit of honest competition, the fans, and the sport, the WBC’s bonus rule will result in the most exciting and spectacular bouts in boxing.

The total amount of the winning bid will be divided as follows:

10% of the total amount will be reserved in escrow and will be awarded to the winner of the fight.

The remaining 90% of the total bid will be divided 70% for champion Wilder and 30% for mandatory challenger Povetkin.

Dan Rafael chat wrap 2/26:

- What has been agreed to for Ward-Kovalev? The money and where the fight cannot be (Oakland or Russia).
- Diego Magdaleno was released from his contract, so he is a free agent. Jessie Magdaleno won last week so he needs to start stepping up, no more babying him.
- Frampton or Quigg? Frampton in a tough pick.
- Angel Garcia is much different in person than he is for the cameras (Dan's experience). Reader wrote in saying he met Angel and the airport and he was very nice and humble, his personality was not like he was in interviews.
- Crawford by KO around RD 9. Ends the fight dominantly after a competitive start.
- Purses for tomorrow: Crawford - $1.21 mil, Lundy - $150k, Verdejo - 125k, Silva - 50k.
- You don't turn down title eliminator opportunities (Parker), believes he is ready for a Takam fight.
- Antoine Douglas' prospects as a MW are good. Not ready for the top guys. His next fight is a good test. Khurtsidze is a better opponent than Soliman.
- HBO not buying Walters-Lomachenko isn't because they aren't interested, it is because Time Warner has put HBO Sports under a massive budget crunch. They have to decide if it is worth spending 7 figures to get that card vs. other programming (what gets the best ratings, etc.).
- Suspects Thurman vs. Porter fight will be back on around June. The Mohegan will have every opportunity to secure the fight again.
- Heard the ticket sales for Thurman vs. Porter were really good.
- Tickets for Canelo vs. Khan are supposed to range from $150-1,500.
- TR has a hold for the Theater at MSG on June 11.
- Verdejo is a bigger star at this point in his career than Cotto was.
- Buy or Sell: Broner will be on BKB in the next 5 years? Sell. BKB won't be around that long.
- Has heard no rumors on what is next for Danny Jacobs.
- Supposedly Jack vs. JCC is going to happen May/June.
- Expects Spence vs. Algieri to be a coming out party for Spence.
- Buy a stock in 1 fighter: Spence or Verdejo? Verdejo because he will be bigger financially, although Spence is probably more talented.
- Best trash talkers currently? Lundy has been good, Haye, Broner, BHop, Kovalev.
- 99% sure Herrera vs. Matthysse will happen.
- Reader wrote in: Will the 16 oz. Tecate cans with Canelo's picture only have 15.5 oz. of beer in them?
- Does not believe Canelo will fight GGG in September, but does believe the fight will happen eventually.
- Believes that Canelo is too financially important to GB and ODH knows the GGG fight is very dangerous. Expects Canelo to fight at Cowboys Stadium in September, likely at 154 vs. a belt holder, possibly could be stripped or drop the 160 lb title. GGG vs. Canelo is more likely for May of 2016.
- If Canelo does not fight GGG this fall and does in fact fight a fighter from the 154 lb division, believes the media will respond negatively towards him.
- Still not sure who he thinks wins Sadam Ali vs. Jessie Vargas.
- Picking Huck to win tomorrow.
- The GRJ fight and the others on the Porter-Thurman card will be rescheduled. No info on when yet.
- Ceja vs. Ruiz? Ceja.
- Maidana vs. Gatti at 140? What a fight!
- Told that Oscar Riva's eye tests were very bad. Probably will never be licensed in the US again.
- Fury vs. Klitschko rematch was already negotiated in the first fight contract. All they need to determine now is location and date. Expects around May/June.
- Fighter who had the "best-last fight"? Calzaghe comes to mind. Lewis vs. Vitali. Froch vs. Groves was good as well.
- Does not think pro's and amateurs should be competing against each other in the Olympics.
- Better all time: Floyd or JCC Sr.? Floyd.
- Vargas vs. Salido has been agreed to. Salido has the contracts and once he finalizes we will get the fight June 4 at StubHub on HBO. Orozco could potentially be on the undercard.
- If Cotto chooses to fight it will likely be June 18th at Barclay's (MSG has a concert that night).
- Crawford vs. Postol this year? Tends to doubt it.
- Povetkin's side won the purse bid. Fight will not necessarily take place in Russia. DiBella told him that if the fight takes place in Russia he hopes Putin can attend so he can see Povetkin get knocked out.

Definitely thought they'd bid higher than that. I'm surprised DiBella only bid $5M. I figured the bid would have gone over $10M.

There's too much going on with PBC right now that they can't say no to big money fights anymore. They gotta make their money this year and Haymon has to do his managerial duties. 3 huge fights under his belt that have nothing to do with PBC shows these lawsuits got to Haymon. All he has to do now is settle the whole Stevenson vs Kovalev and its all good

The lawsuits probably didn't even make a dent. If there are problems it's with his financial backers losing hundreds of millions of dollars.

Waddell & Reed's Investment in Haymon: $82 mil. remaining (of $521 mil.) as of December 31, 2015 *

I of course don't pretend to have any inside knowledge whatsoever of Al Haymon and PBC, just the word that's been going around past couple months.

Yeah I agree, I don't think it has anything to do with any of that. I'm just surprised no one bid over $10M, especially the Povetkin side of it. Not really a PBC/Haymon/whoever turning down a paycheck type of thing. There's just a lot of money in that fight for Povetkin's side and I thought they'd have bid over $10M.
