Floyd Mayweather vs Manny PacquiaoBy Chris Williams: In response to criticism from his promoter Bob Arum for him missing a meeting with his doctor on July 18th to begin his rehab on his surgically repaired right shoulder, superstar Manny Pacquiao sent a message today saying that everything is fine and that he’s started his shoulder rehab on his own without meeting a doctor.

Pacquiao feels that he’s ahead of schedule for his shoulder rehab. Pacquiao isn’t saying where he learned how to rehab a surgically repaired right rotator cuff injury, but he seems to feel that he knows what he’s doing.
But without Pacquiao’s surgically repaired rotator cuff being examined by his surgeon, he’s flying blind by doing exercises that might not conducive for the proper healing of his shoulder.

“I respect Bob Arum. He’s just like a father to me. I believe he’s just voicing his concern and I appreciate it. I don’t take it negatively,” Pacquiao said via supersport.com. “But he has nothing to worry about. I’m doing the rehab myself. I’m recovering faster than expected. I can now raise my right arm.”

Some boxing fans might see this statement from Pacquiao and read it as a sign of him never having a shoulder problem to begin with. This is what a lot of fans actually believe. They believe that Pacquiao faked the shoulder injury that he had said was caused during his fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. last May 2nd. They feel that Pacquiao brought up the shoulder injury bit as an excuse for him having lost a fairly one-sided fight 12 round decision to Mayweather. This is all conspiracy stuff, of course. But when you see Pacquiao saying he’s rehabbing his surgically repaired shoulder on his own without meeting with his surgeon who specializes in helping people come back from injuries if this time, it may cause some fans to wonder whether Pacquiao ever had an injury to begin with.

Arum recently said to the Boxingmirror.com “When you have an operation like that you’ve got to get into rehab. You’ve got to get the doctor to look at it and to guide you as to the kind of rehab that you’ve got to do…As far as I’m concerned he’s not an active fighter.”
Coming back from a torn rotator cuff is extremely difficult for any athlete, so you can understand Arum’s concern with the issue. There are a lot of athletes that are never able to come back from surgery of this kind. It’s one of the more difficult injuries for a sports person to come back from. For Pacquiao not to be meeting with his surgeon after surgery to have him guide him through rehab, it does seem a little irresponsible on Pacquiao’s part.

If Pacquiao comes back from this and only has the use of his left arm, he’s going to be right back where he started from before his trainer Freddie Roach taught him how to use his right hand a decade ago in 2005. If Pacquiao is only going to fight one or two more fights before he retires, then it might not matter if his right arm is never the same. He can get a big money rematch against Mayweather, as long as he comes in at the right price, and then maybe fight one of Arum’s Top Rank stable fighters like Terence Crawford as a favor to Arum.

Golovkin-Lemieux unification fight in discussions

ESPN: Golovkin-Lemieux unification fight in discussions
Blogs - Sports Blogs - ESPN

Quote:
Right after Montreal slugger David Lemieux dropped Hassan N'Dam four times in a unanimous decision victory to win a vacant middleweight world title on June 20, Lemieux's promoters, Oscar De La Hoya of Golden Boy and Camille Estephan of Eye of the Tiger, said they were interested in a unification fight with fearsome Gennady Golovkin -- but not until next year.

De La Hoya said Lemieux (34-2, 31 KOs) would fight again in the fall but in his mandatory defense -- even though the identity of his mandatory challenger had not even been set yet.

Of course, being that Lemieux has the IBF title, he could bypass the mandatory in favor of Golovkin because the IBF clearly states in its rules that it will allow a unification fight to go before a mandatory defense.

But it seemed as though Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs), who none of the big names are rushing to fight, was going to have to look for another opponent. He would like any unification fight or even super middleweight champion Andre Ward, although that is a very hard deal to make and seems unlikely for the fall.

Now it seems, however, that the prospect of a Golovkin-Lemieux unification fight -- a very fan-friendly fight and one HBO would love to put on (and one that will cost the network a pretty penny) -- has a chance of happening. Both sides acknowledge that they are at least talking about a deal.

Hey, if you don't talk nothing will get done, so at least having dialogue is a great start.

"We're exploring options for David Lemieux and discussing things with Tom Loeffler [Golovkin's promoter from K2 Promotions]," De La Hoya told ESPN.com this week. "We'll see if we can make it. I'll sit down with [Golden Boy vice president] Eric Gomez and see if it's even possible. But my mind is always open to giving fans the best fights and this is one of the best fights."

Estephan has also heard the fan demand for the GGG-Lemieux fight and is interested in making it but with the age-old caveat: As long as the money is right.

"Everyone is asking when are we going to see David versus Golovkin? Well when the financials are right we will do it," he said. "No doubt in my mind it would be one crazy fight. Obviously, fans want to see. We would not go in there if we didn't believe that David could hurt Golovkin. David is that throwback fighter that people love and in his last performances he showed that he could box, showed an excellent jab, showed that he has the endurance to be firing bombs from round 1 through 12, and those bombs hurt people.

"We can literally say that David is in the hurt business. Believe me, we think David will hurt Golovkin. Golovkin is certainly a great fighter, but without wanting to divulge our strategy we feel very good about our chances. People want to see Golovkin tested and we are willing if it makes business sense. We are talking and the door is open. Having said that, we are well aware that David is only 26 and is getting better day by day where Golovkin is now 33. So time is on our side. We're not in a rush.

As for Golovkin camp, GGG, Loeffler, trainer Abel Sanchez and the rest of the team have wanted nothing more than to fight big fights and unification fights. Golovkin has said it time and again. He was willing to move up to super middleweight last summer to fight Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., who declined a huge offer. Golovkin was also willing to go to England to face Carl Froch, who never took it very seriously and retired.

"It has always been GGG's priority to unify all the titles in the middleweight division," Loeffler said. "If we can make a fight with Lemieux, he would be one step closer to his goal."

And, if they can make that fight, we're all in for a treat.

At the very least Lemieux is a big time puncher so if he lands something flush, there's always that possibility. But as naner12 said it's a unification bout so that will be one step closer to getting all the belts into one hand.

Hopefully Lemieux in October and Canelo in May for the WBC middleweight title.

If this fight happens next I will be surprised. Lemieux should fight his mandatory first on HBO in order to hype up this fight first. GGG vs Lemieux has the potential of being ppv worthy, especially if it happens in vegas or LA. GBP should protect Lemieux just a lil bit and save him for Canelo if Canelo wins vs Cotto. By then GGG will have gone up in weight in a possible fight vs Ward or a good fight vs Lee. Hopefully he fights Andy Lee and wins while Canelo unifies 2 160 lb belts and GGG vs Canelo happens at the end of 2016 or beginning 2017.

Lemieux has to be hyped up a lil tho. HBO fucked up by not showing the N'Dam Lemieux fight and to just put him in front of GGG like that won't give them the ratings they deserve. But if you really want to make big money on him, have Lemieux KO another mother fucker, wait to see the result of the Cotto canelo fight, and have both Lemieux vs (I hope) Canelo fight under one banner on ppv. Canelo can then unify 2 160 titles while hopefully GGG can remain undefeated throughout his fights and get a huge ppv fight with GGG vs Canelo for another big unification bout. I have no problems with fighters being protected as long as it's not a ppv fight. All these fights I mentioned have ppv potential. Besides, a lot of people also feel GGG is being protected by his promoter by not setting him up at higher weight classes but I don't speak on that because GGG's fights are not on ppv. If he was to challenge himself his promoter would want it to be on ppv and we would all watch that as well

Lemieux would need way more than one fight to have a successful PPV in the states. Most big fights involving Canadian fighters are on Canadian PPV, whether they're on HBO in the states or not.

It'll take way more time than necessary for that to be a big PPV fight. On the other hand if Canelo ends up beating Cotto and wins the lineal title and GGG looks good in annihilating Lemieux as he should then you have the potential for a GGG/Canelo that'll be huge.

Lemieux is likely never going to be that guy involved in a big PPV, no need to save or protect him for any of that.

HBO didn't fuck up that was all on Golden Boy. They dropped the ball big time. They could have showed it on HBO if they wanted to. This fight should NEVER be on PPV battle, this is a regular HBO quality fight even if Lemieux was "hyped up a little more".

Anyway, peep out the tweet:

So what, wait another two years for all that to happen? Fuck that, these fights need to happen now.

Canelo vs Cotto in September
Golovkin vs Lemieux in October
Canelo vs Golovkin in May for the WBC, WBA and lineal middleweight crown!

This is perfect. No need to hype up Lemieux. Canelo vs Golovkin will be fucking massive.

And then after that Golovkin vs Ward at 168.

I agree with you 2-0-Sixx @2-0-Sixx , but the reality is that you think after fighting Cotto GBP will allow Canelo to fight GGG? Fuck no. I've even mentioned before and ODH even said he wouldn't want Canelo to fight GGG for like another 2 years. Canelo's last 2 ppv's were not ppv worthy but he did do descent numbers. Lemieux's last fight on HBO did good numbers and another fight or two and yes he could have been in a ppv fight with GGG or Canelo. As long as GBP is involved they will put up good undercards that will make any of these two fights for Lemieux ppv worthy. I'm not saying he's a star but he would be a good hype job for any network that wants to push fights on ppv

Guillermo Rigondeaux’s manager Gary Hyde has informed WBN that a previous rehydration agreement has been retracted by Vasyl Lomachenko’s manager Egil Klimas.

Tentative talks had been ongoing last week in a bid to make a massive featherweight clash between the two world champions and ex-amateur stars, although disagreements over the weight seem to be put the fight on hold - for now at least.

“Vasyl Lomachenko’s manager Egis Klimas initially agreed to the fight at 126 pounds with a rehydration clause of no more than 134 pounds on the day of the fight,” Hyde exclusively told World Boxing News on Thursday.

“Now, he has retracted having spoken with Lomachenko and he won't agree to the rehydration clause.

“I know Bob Arum wants the fight, so the fight could happen, but we can't give away so many advantages,” he added.

Rigo v Lomachenko had created quite a stir since Hyde revealed contact about a meeting, but with either side differing on their stipulations over the poundage, the super-fight faces being put on the backburner.

Without a fight in 2015, Rigondeaux has found it tough to nail down big-name opponents in the past due to his fearsome reputation of ripping through all comers at 122lbs. Last November, the 34 year-old Cuban took out Hisashi Amagasa in eleven rounds to improve to 15-0 with a tenth stoppage and holds impressive wins over Nonito Donaire and Joseph Agbeko.

Lomachenko, 27, halted Gamalier Rodriguez last May to successfully defend his WBO featherweight title for the second time having defeated current WBC belt holder Gary Russell Jr to claim the first major pro title of his career.

By Tim Nielson: WBO light middleweight champion Demetrius Andrade (21-0, 14 KOs) is in bad shape right now after the World Boxing Organization sent him a letter saying that he’s got 10 days to sign for a fight or else they’ll be looking to strip him of his WBO title for failing to defend it in over a year.

Andrade had the opportunity to defend his WBO title against unbeaten contender Jermell Charlo last year in December, as Showtime was willing to televise the fight on their network. However, Andrade opted not to take the fight due to him not being pleased with the money that was being offered.

Showtime was ready to give Andrade a three fight option where his next three fights would be televised on their network. In hindsight, Andrade should have taken the deal because even if he does get a fight signed in the next eight days, the money likely won’t be good due to it being a rush job.

Andrade was recently trying to negotiate a fight against 40-year-old Anthony Mundine, but that fight fell apart after the WBO said that the fight couldn’t take place due to Mundine not being ranked in the top 15 by their organization.

As of now, Andrade hasn’t fought since last year in June when he defeated Brian Rose by a 7th round knockout.
“He needs the title,” Andrade’s promoter Artie Pellulo said via USA Today at Boxingjunkie.com. “He’s not to the point of his career where the title doesn’t mean anything. If he takes the Charlo fight and it leads to other fights, in time he doesn’t need the title after defending it three or four times. But they made some bad decisions.”

Andrade only fought once in 2014, and he still hasn’t fought in 2015. With the way that he’s running his career, he reminds one of how some of the big stars of the sport have run their own careers into the earth. When you’re as young as Andrade, you can’t afford to be missing a year or more out of your career by staying inactive. It doesn’t work that way if you’re not going to stay active. Andrade still hasn’t built his brand yet by fighting enough times to become a star. He needs to be fighting three to four times per year, even if it means that he takes on a lesser fighter.

Andrade’s promoters have very little time to try and find an opponent for him to fight next. They’re going to have to find someone soon or else they’re going to be stripped of the WBO title.
