Rosado: I proved I’m on the elite level now with the Golovkin fight
January 22nd, 2013 | Post Comment

Golovkin Rosado Golovkin vs. Rosado gennady golovkin By Dan Ambrose Gabriel Rosado (21-6, 13 KO’s) thinks his performance in losing a 7th round knockout to WBA World middleweight champion Gennady Golovin (25-0, 22 KO’s) last weekend proved that he’s an elite fighter. Rosado believes he won a lot of new fans by staying in there until the 7th when he fight was halted by his corner. Rosado says he’s going to move back down to 154 where he hopes he can get fights against Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Alfredo Angulo based on his performance against Golovkin.

Rosado told ringtv “I gave fans a good fight and I believe I do have more fans after Saturday night…Fans will want to see me again. I stood up against the toughest guy at 160…The Golovkin fight puts me on that elite level.”

Maybe it’s me but I didn’t see anything from Rosado’s performance that showed that he’s anything close to being an elite fighter. Indeed, Rosado didn’t perform like an elite fighter would be fighting in the retreat mode for 90% of the fight. That’s really elite; that’s someone looking to just survive. Rosado said the battle plan was to give ground for the first four rounds and then go after Rosado from the 5th round on.

It looks like Rosado followed that game plan to the letter because he moved away from Golovkin in the first rounds and only threw a tiny handful of punches. To Rosado’s credit, he did come on in the 5th round and was able to land some nice shots. However, the brief – and really the only success for Rosado – was short-lived as Golovkin hurt Rosado with a big right uppercut at the start of the 6th round when Rosado came right at him.

After getting hurt, Rosado went back into the running mode for the remainder of the fight. The only round where Rosado threw any meaningful punches was in the 5th round. After that, Rosado was hurt in the 6th and back on his bike until the fight was stopped in the 7th. So the question is did Rosado fight at an elite level against Golovkin or was he just another over-matched contender with poor game plan?

From my perspective I didn’t see anything from Rosado that would win him any fans. He was basically back-peddling the entire fight save for the 5th, and he was bloody mess while running. Do boxing fans want to see that kind of fighter again? I doubt it. I thought Golokvin’s previous opponent Grzegorz Proksa was a lot more interesting to watch compared to Rosado because at least he came to fight Golovkin and wasn’t running around the ring like he was afraid. Proksa made a fight of it and then went out on his shield in the 5th.

Rosado failed to make a fight of it and the fight stopped by his corner. The difference between the way Proksa fought Golovkin and the way Rosado fought him were light night and day. Proksa was much more interesting to watch and he landed much bigger shots on Golovkin.

Khan wants next fight in UK in April
January 21st, 2013 | Post Comment

amir khan By William Mackay: With his last fight against lightweight Carlos Molina a disappointment bringing in less than spectacular ticket sales in the United States, former IBF/WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (27-3, 19 KO’s) will be taking his next fight to the UK to fight a still to be determined opponent in April.

Khan said to Sky Sports News “I would love the fight to be in England, so I’m working with Golden Boy in America to try and get it there. It’s been a long time since I fought in the UK and I love fighting in the UK. I’ve got a loyal fanbase over here.”

Khan hasn’t fought in the UK since beating light welterweight Paul McCloskey in April 2011 in a one-sided mismatch in Manchester, England. It wasn’t one of Khan’s better performances, and in hindsight he should have thought twice about fighting a slick fighter like McCloskey.
However, that was Khan’s first fight after a grueling 12 round decision win over Marcos Maidana in December 2010, and Golden Boy didn’t want to match Khan against anyone with power because how much punishment Khan had taken against Maidana. The result of that was the selection of McCloskey.

Khan’s April fight could be against former WBA welterweight champion Vyacheslav Senchenko. That’s the fight that Golden Boy is looking to negotiate for Khan. However, they’ll have to give Senchenko a big offer to get him to agree to it because he’s also in the running for a possible Pacquiao tune-up fight in April.

Senchenko is a relatively safe pick for Khan on the account of Senchenko having been recently stopped by Paulie Malignaggi last year. Senchenko can punch at times, but he’s really not the kind of fighter that will cause Khan too many problems.

Where Khan is going to have problems is later on this year when and if he faces Danny Garcia in a rematch. That’s going to be tough for Khan if Golden Boy makes that fight because Garcia has a lot of power and he’ll likely expose Khan’s weak chin again.

Canelo vs Trout or he's ducking.
The only way he gets out of ducking Trout is to get the Mayweather fight and I dont see that happening in May. Rosado needs to have his head examined. He did nuthin but portray a running punching bag against GGG. He did get in a few slaps and bubbled GGG's eye but cmon man. That was a one-sided fight! He better stay away from Canelo but I could see a fight against Angulo. Canelo wont fight him anyway because he is a tru 154er haha. Got Em!!

I like Rosado. I thought he showed a lot of heart and he's improved a ton over the past year or so. And he did what he had to against Golovkin which is use movement and box. If he would have stood there and traded he'd be KOd in a couple rounds.

But i agree Canelo and other top 154 guys beat him. Still a quality fighter.

I aint saying dude aint a decent fighter. I am saying based off that performance he doesnt deserve Canelo. He did what he had to which was run and get hit. It wasnt like it was a close fight where he did some good work and lost a close one. He got beat up lol. Im sure there are some guys he could beat at 154 but not Canelo. Not sure about Angulo. Got Em!!

Did he say anything about Canelo? Maybe I missed it. I think he's just saying he believes he's one of the top guys at 154 and he's partially right...I think besides the obvious Canelo, Trout, Cotto, he's somewhere below that amongst the James Kirklands, Carlos Molina's, etc.

Gotta respect him though he was K9's mandatory for K9's title, a very winnable fight for him but he passed on it to fight GGG. Maybe in hindsight not a smart move lol but respectable nonetheless.

The article said he felt he did enough against GGG to land a fight with Canelo. Canelo aint gonna fight a guy who just lost. If that was the case he would be fighting Cotto which is what they wanted. Got Em!!

I wouldn't go that far. Lou DiBella is just a hypocrite. At first it was "who the fuck is Pirog?" Then it was "who the fuck is Golovkin? " but he has Martinez fight Murray, Darren Barker etc.

Also before the first Williams fight he said, "All we want is a shot. A shot to get a foot in the door to prove we're the best." But he doesn't want to give anyone else these shots, even though he was shitting on the other promoters for not giving Martinez a chance. Now he's doing the same thing.

Golovkin is clearly better than the domestic UK fighters Martinez always fights. Plus it would be a unification bout. But I guess they are still holding hope for a Floyd fight so no more risks for Sergio.

But he did not prove he was "elite" like his quote suggest....

Rosado proved he can duck a KO, but he ain't elite.
