I guesd Canelo got his guarantee

Team Canelo: We're Facing
Mayweather in September

By Miguel Rivera, notifight.com

WBC junior middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (41-0-1, 30KOs) will get his wish in 2013 - a dream fight with
Floyd Mayweather Jr . - according to Canelo's manager
Chepo Reynoso.

Canelo and Mayweather will co-headline a big evening of
boxing on May 4th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Should
both of the superstars win their individual fights, they will
collide on September 14th at the same Las Vegas venue.

"[Vice President] Eric Gomez of Golden Boy Promotions came
to Guadalajara and we agreed that Saul and Floyd would share
the evening in May. We already reached a financial agreement
[for May], and a guarantee that we will face [Mayweather] in
September in Las Vegas," said Chepo via telephone.

"The worth of Saul was confirmed by the large attendance at
the [MGM Grand], even though on that same day Julio Cesar
Chavez Jr. fought 'Maravilla' Martinez a few blocks away. In
addition, Canelo finished Josesito Lopez with the force that
was expected. Mayweather had difficulties in defeating Puerto
Rico's Miguel Cotto, who even landed some big punches. We
believe that it is time for Canelo to show what is made of."

Mayweather will likely face Robert "The Ghost" Guerrero in
May. Canelo's opponent is still unresolved, but Austin Trout is
still rumored to be in the running.
like i said "nothing wrong with Canelos demands" boxing is a business! GOT EM!

Chavez and Mayweather Sr. are both hilarious on Twitter........

Great to follow.
Tyson Fury puts them to shame. Seriously he is unreal on twitter. From going on rants about how Irish gypsies are treated unfairly to randomly typing "heil hitler! " and getting into twitter wars with fighters, fans, managers etc

Brandon Rios: "My goal is to fight Danny Garcia for the WBC title belt, because that's the belt I want!"
By Jenna Jay, OnTheRopes Boxing Radio, Doghouse Boxing (Jan 13, 2013) Doghouse Boxing
-

Jenna Jay: Last year was a great year for your trainer Robert Garcia, and many had him as trainer of the year. What is your vote on that?

Brandon Rios: I think they should give it to him now, cause he did a great job with not only me, but people don't know that he also did a excellent job with Luevano, his brother Mikey, brought Kelly Pavlik back, he is now 3-0 under Robert, he got Nonito the fighter of the year, he also trains Maidana, so he's done a great job I think, he's training very well, he loves what he do and this is his passion, he loves boxing. I think now is his time to shine. Robert made me, I made Robert. I was the first one to come on with Robert, and I'll be the last one to leave him.

Jenna: Now you just mentioned Nonito Donaire a second ago, he is many people's fighter of the year. Do you believe he deserves that honor?

Rios: Yeah, it's true. He fought 4 times last year and with great opponents, so he deserves fighter of the year. It's great, he's been doing a great job, and Robert is helping him out, they have a great game plan all the time, so there is nothing we can do about that.

Jenna: Alright, well Brandon I want to get your views on something that happened just last month, and it was something that shocked a lot of boxing fans. Manny Pacquiao getting knocked out in 6 rounds to Juan Manuel Marquez. What are your thoughts on that result?

Rios: Marquez trained his ass off! He did everything right, he had the right training, the right resume, the right strength and conditioning coach, he did everything right in that fight. He wanted to prove to the world that he did beat Manny Pacquiao those 3 times, so he wanted to show the world that he came in there with a little more game plan and a little more confidence and a lot of power. He knew that Manny Pacquiao lunges in with his right and Marquez just waited for the right moment and countered with that straight right and Knocked him out!

Jenna: People are wondering if he will ever be the same after that type of knockout, and I'm wondering if you think he will?

Rios: You know it's very hard to say that he will be the same or not. There is a lot of people that don't come back the same. I wish him the best in his future, with his family and his health. But we will see, hopefully he comes back and becomes a champion again, and be the best pound 4 pound like he was before at one time, so hopefully he comes back and god bless his health and hopefully everything is well.

Jenna: Ok, back to you Brandon. The talk is that there could be a rematch with Mike Alvarado next, what have you heard.

Rios: That's the talk the rumors, we are not 100% sure, I still have to call my manager. I'm just getting back in the gym after a long vacation, the longest I have took off, 2-3 months I have not been training, so I'm just getting back in the gym. That's the rumor, that's the talk going around and if the money is right, and they pay me what I want, then why not give him another shot. He feels that they stopped it too soon, so let's do it again. This time it will be different cause I already know how to beat him, I already know what to do, so I think it will be a different story this time. Let's do it again, we put on a great show, so why not again.

Jenna: You said you are just getting back in the gym, how soon do you think you can get back in the ring?

Rios: Whenever they tell me the fight is done. The date they gave me was March and April, those are the two dates they gave me, so whenever they say, I'm ready! It won't take me that long to get back in shape, I'll be in shape soon, I'll be ready.

Jenna: What are your goals for 2013, and are there any fighters out there you would like to see yourself in the ring with?

Rios: My goal is to fight Danny Garcia for the WBC title belt, because that's the belt I want. I would love to fight Lucas Matthysse. Any champion at 140 I would like to fight them. I'm the new one coming up, and I want what everyone has and that's a title and I want those titles. Nothing against nobody, I have nothing against anybody, I'm in a sport that everybody wants a title and if you have a title, that's what I want!

Mayweather’s return to the ring, Austin Trout, Malignaggi-Mosley & more!
Boxing article posted on January 14th, 2013 | Post Comment

Mosley Malignaggi Mosley vs. Malignaggi Mayweather Guerrero Mayweather vs. Guerrero shane mosley paulie malignaggi floyd mayweather jr austin trout By Tom Drury: A lot has happened during the last six weeks in boxing, as the last year has been wound up and we enter the new one. I wanted to share my opinion on the main topics currently going on in the sport, from Floyd Mayweather’s next opponent to Juan Manuel Marquez and his magic trick. I am going to share my thoughts on several topics in bullet point style, enjoy it or hate it; here are my thoughts on the current affairs of boxing.

1. Austin Trout – two names have been thrown about for Mayweather’s return to the ring on May 4: Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero, while Trout has been totally dismissed. Guerrero has beaten Selcuk Aydin and Andre Berto at welterweight while Canelo has defeated Josesito Lopez and Shane Mosley up at junior-middleweight in his last two fights. Neither fight is terrible nor I would like to see both. However, a fight with Mayweather would be a quantum leap in regards to level of opposition for Alvarez.
His resume is very sparse for a guy most rank in the top two at 154lbs. His fame means more than his resume. Trout seemingly is being punished for having the audacity to upstage a potential main event between Alvarez and Miguel Cotto. Golden Boy Promotions will now likely not schedule Trout any more meaningful fights due to the risk of him screwing anything else up. Golden Boy has a good stable of fighters at junior-middleweight, so why not use them? Just have a money in the bank match already between Trout, Carlos Molina, Erislandy Lara and Cornelius Bundrage. Molina tames James Kirkland and Lara destroys Paul Williams then both receive little love from their promoter. I hope the same thing did not just happen to Trout, one of the best young fighters in the sport.

2. Mosley vs. Malignaggi – I am going to bill this fight, good, bad and the ugly.
The good: Malignaggi has no power so he won’t concuss Mosley the way somebody else could.
The bad: there is a chance “Sugar” Shane will look better than expected then brought back as a stepping stone for someone younger, more powerful and looking to impress by being the first man to stop Mosley.

The ugly: This fight.

Nobody is going to gain from this match-up, there is no upside to this fight, why not a younger, fresher opponent for Malignaggi? Either Malignaggi wins and continues his career resurrection or a younger fighter maybe (Josesito Lopez) has a good win under his belt to move his career onwards and upwards.

3. The Ring Magazine – Some people think that Ring magazine has been in decline, the magazine was sold to Golden Boy, which quite frankly puzzled me. I personally feel it’s no longer the “Bible of Boxing.”

4. Marquez doping allegations – before I continue, I personally do not believe Marquez was under the influence of performance enhancing drugs in the fourth Pacquiao fight. I believe Pacquiao was caught by a terrific punch and the better man won. Marquez is the first man to floor Pacquiao (legitimately) since the 1990s. He completely rendered Pacquiao unconscious which was to say the least out of the blue. As fans, we don’t want to believe our heroes are flawed men, people just like us that make mistakes.

For those ignorant people that don’t want to come to grips with doping in boxing, I’m going to refer to a quote from Christopher Nolans, (The Prestige on how magic tricks are performed) the first act is, “The Pledge” the magician shows you something ordinary, a deck of cards, a bird or a man, he shows you this object. Perhaps he asks you to inspect to see if it is indeed real, unaltered and normal, but of course it probably isn’t. The second act is called “The Turn” the magician takes the ordinary something and makes it do something extraordinary. Now you’re looking for the secret… but you won’t find it, because of course you’re not really looking, you don’t really want to know, you want to be fooled. As I said, I personally believe Marquez was clean and he did pass the Nevada athletic commissions test for performance enhancing drugs after the fight. However, in my opinion I believe some fighters now and of past generations, knowingly or unknowingly are using performance enhancing drugs.

I would like fans thoughts on the current affairs in boxing, performance enhancing drugs (PEDS), current match-ups and potential match-ups for 2013.

Brook Promises To Impress By Knocking Alexander Off

Kell Brook knows he will be the underdog for the first time in his career when he travels to Detroit charged with dethroning IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander next month.

The unbeaten Sheffield star puts his perfect 29-0 (19 KOs) record on the line when he goes to America for his maiden world title tilt.

Some bookmakers see the fight as even but many experts predict the younger but more established American will have too much for the British challenger.

Brook, however, is undaunted by the idea.

"It's the first time in my career I've been the underdog but it doesn't matter to me," the 26-year-old said.

"He's the champion and people are expecting him to keep the title but we know differently. I'm going to show him - and the world - why people call me the Special One.

"I'll go out there and won't be denied."

The pair were scheduled to fight this weekend until an ankle injury suffered by Brook forced a five-week postponement to February 23.

Brook insists he is fully recovered and has been on a training camp in the Canaries as part of his intense preparation.

"The ankle is fantastic now, I'm fully prepared and fully healed," he said.

"It's helped me because it's given me more time to get prepared and everything's fallen into place with my new team who are helping with my conditioning and making me into even more of a monster.

"My dietician Dave Stache has even moved in with me to oversee everything. That's a real sacrifice but this is a world title fight so it's well worth it.

"I want to make sure that when the bell rings I'm in the best shape physically and mentally I can ever be.

"If he has to live with me, so be it. Anything to get the job done and believe you me, the job will be getting done."

Brook added: "I'm going over to his backyard but I wouldn't want it any other way.

"Going to the champion's country and taking his title off him on his own patch is going to feel so good. It's going to be the icing on the cake going there to do the business.

"I've got to do whatever it takes to win, whether that's make it a dogfight or a technical fight. Whatever happens in that ring, the job will get done.

"I'm getting more confident by the day and by February 23 I'll be a man on a mission."

Steve Collins vs. Roy Jones Jr. possible in next three months
Boxing article posted on January 15th, 2013 | Post Comment

Steve Collins Collins Jones Jr Collins vs. Jones Jr roy jones jr By Allan Fox: 48-year-old former two division world champion Steve Collins (36-3, 21 KO’s) says a fight between him and 43-year-old Roy Jones Jr. (56-8, 40 KO’s) is possible in 2013. He says both him and Jones Jr. have agreed on the fight and will split the money down the middle. Collins just needs to train hard and get ready for the fight. They also need a venue and date of course.

Collins hasn’t fought in 15 years since beating Craig Cummings by a 3rd round knockout in July 1997. Collins looks like he’s in good shape for an ex-fighter that is nearing 50. He’ll be turning 49 in July, and that’s pretty old to be still fighting. However, Jones Jr. will be turning 44 tomorrow, January 16th, and he appears to be totally shot now and has been for a long time.

With a job as part of the HBO analyst team, it’s unknown why Jones Jr. continues to fight when he’s no longer finding the same kind of success that he had during the prime of his career.

Collins said to talksport.co.uk “I spoke to Roy and we’re going to get it on. He wants one more fight before he retires and this is the one he wants. If we get a good offer we’ll split it down the middle and get it on. I would like 10-12 weeks to get ready. In my mind I already see how that fight goes and I can see the outcome. I feel like I’ve never been away. I’m looking forward to it.”

Collins says that the fight with Jones Jr. will likely take place in Dubai, as he says there’s a lot of interest in seeing the fight over. I can’t imagine that there are a lot of boxing fans in that country that still remember Collins but Jones Jr. obviously is someone that is still well known all around the work. He’s likely the drawing point for that fight. Collins says there’s also a possibility that the fight could take place in the UK, China or Russia.

Again, it’s unclear how many boxing fans you would get if the Jones-Collins fight was staged in Russia or China. That just seems like a bizarre place to stage that fight. If someone from those countries are willing to bankroll the fight, it might not be a bad deal, but the gate might not be nearly as high as it would be if they staged it in the UK where most of Collins’ fans are located.

It’s hard to imagine Collins beating Jones Jr. at this point. Jones Jr. might be a shot fighter, but he’s an active shot fighter and that’s going to be the difference in the fight. He’s more active and five years younger with much better hand speed.

Banks vs. Mitchell II on February 16th in Atlantic City
Boxing article posted on January 15th, 2013 | Post Comment

boxing By Ryan Wardle: On November 17 Johnathon Banks walked into the ring looking to many as a stepping stone for heavyweight prospect Seth Mitchell. However, Banks floored Mitchell three times in the second round en route to a second round TKO victory. The two fighters will square off again on the undercard of Adrien Broner vs. Gavin Rees on February 16th in Atlantic City, New Jersey to see if that victory was a fluke.

Both fighters have experience against competition with limited backgrounds. Banks only loss was to Tomasz Adamek who was easily his toughest opponent, a former champion at both light heavyweight and cruiserweight. Adamek won after dropping Banks and then landing a flurry of punches to earn an eighth round stoppage.

Mitchell faced his toughest competition in Chazz Witherspoon and won by third round TKO. This sounds impressive but Witherspoon is not the toughest of opponents and he still managed to rattle Mitchell in the first, causing him to clinch. Mitchell left himself open to right hands early and Witherspoon took advantage of that. He also left himself open in the Banks fight.

The more experienced Banks landed a hard counter shot that led to an early second round knockdown. The look on Mitchell’s face after the first knockdown was pure shock and he never fully recovered. Banks knocked him down twice more after having what amounted to be target practice. After the third knockdown the referee stopped the fight. Mitchell, to be fair, did dominate the first round of the fight and even seemed to hurt Banks. But after having his chinned tested he failed miserably.

Mitchell is an athlete and former Michigan Sate linebacker, yet he is inexperienced and has showed signs of poor defense in his two most recent bouts. Banks has more experience but is also the smaller fighter. In the grand scheme of heavyweight division this fight is not one that is highly anticipated, but will most likely be entertaining. Both fighters have weaknesses that the other can easily expose, the only prediction that can be made in this fight is that it will likely end in knockout.

Doghouse Boxing Interview with Gennady "Triple G" Golovkin
By Ken Hissner, Doghouse Boxing (Jan 16, 2013) Doghouse Boxing
-
Gennady Golovkin
Gennady Golovkin (Left) - “King” Gabriel Rosado (Right)
Thursday night I got a call from Philly’s PA 175 champ Dhafir Smith. He has been in camp at Big Bear, in CA, with Gennady “Triple G” Golovkin, the WBA and IBO middleweight champion. Smith asked if I wanted to interview Golovkin. I was glad to have the opportunity. Philly’s Farah Ennis the former NABF 175 champ was also there in camp with Golovkin along with Tony Harrison, 11-0, a protégé of the late Manny Steward who is 154 and from Detroit who is on undercard.

Since Golovkin left Universum and signed with K2, that K2 and Tom Loeffler (managing director of K2 Promotions) have gotten him the fights on HBO in America that he has wanted. Now he is fighting at Madison Square Garden, where it has been his dream to fight.

What I learned from this interview was Golovkin who was born in Kazakhstan whom he represented in the 2004 Olympics winning a Silver medal. He moved to Germany in 2006. His father is Russian and his mother is Korean. He informed me he is Orthodox. His wife’s name is Alina and their son Vadim is 3 years old.

KEN HISSNER: It’s a pleasure to talk with you. Have you seen Rosado fight?

GGG: He’s good and strong. A good technician.

KEN HISSNER: I believe he is a little taller than you. Have you met him?

GGG: We met in New York and he is a little taller than me. (2”)

KEN HISSNER: You are unbeaten with 24 wins and 21 knockouts. Will you be looking for a knockout in this fight?

GGG: Boxing is my job. I look for a knockout in this fight.

KEN HISSNER: How is your weight?

GGG: I am 162 this morning and hope to come in around 157.

KEN HISSNER: I understand you can fight from 154 to 168.

GGG: I would like to fight at 154 after this fight.

KEN HISSNER: I understand you play cards with Dhafir and Farah. Watch Dhafir because I think he cheats. I want you to take it easy on these two Philly boxers for we want them back fighting in Philly.

GGG: They supply me with good sparring. (Most don’t last long I am told). I have been in camp for two months and feel good.

KEN HISSNER: Thanks for taking the time and may God bless you.

GGG: Thank you.

In talking to Golovkin about unifying the titles at 160 and 154 in the future Dhafir Smith had a parting word. “It’s not who he wants to fight. It’s who wants to fight him”. That kind of sums it up!

Golovkin was 345-5 in the amateurs and still has never been knocked off his feet. He was the 2004 Olympic Silver medalist and a junior and world champion along with being a 2-time Asian world amateur champion. He defeated Lucian Bute, Andre Dirrell, Andy Lee and Matvey Korobov in the amateurs. He informed me his trainer for the past 3 years has been Abel Sanchez. I don’t expect this fight to go the 12 rounds and wish both fighters the best!

Golovkin is interesting indeed. His mother is Russian but of Korean ethnicity and father purely Russian and Golovkin is a proud Kazakh.

And if you had questions about his chin, over 400 fights and never been down, he says that includes sparring as well. Can't wait for this fight.

A lot of guys over the years have labeled themselves the "most feared" or whatever and while I hate saying that about anyone, it is a fact that Golovkin has been ducked repeatedly by top guys for years now.

Felix Sturm shameless ducked Golovkin, his mandatory, for 2 years and the WBA equally as shamefully allowed it to happen. When Geale beat Sturm, he did so knowing the winner would have to fight Golovkin or be stripped. Geale chose the latter and is fighting Anhthony Mundine instead.

N'Dam was also ordered by the WBA two times to fight Golovkin and instead chose not to.

Peter Quillin was offered a big HBO fight recently against Golovkin but instead chose to fight Guerrero.

Obviously Martinez & Chavez both turned him down as well.

So did other top 10 guys such as Matthew Macklin.

Pirog (#5) was the one guy besides Proska (#10) that was scheduled to fight him, but suffered a bad back injury and is still sidelined from that.

GGG has literally tried to fight every top 10 fighter in the division and the only person who was willing to fight him was Proska.

Btw people are sleeping on Rosado he's a live dog in this fight. Boxing is about style matchups and if Rosado is smart he can use his jab and box and win rounds. Of course most people fail to realize this and im sure if Rosado looks good but eventually gets KOd everyone will say GGG is a bum and overrated etc.

Quillin is fighting Guerrero??? Also just like Canelo is ducking Trout which is more about business. The same goes for GGG. Obviously he has no name and following over here so why would Quillin or Martinez fight him? Its a high risk low reward fight. Dont act like its nuthin more than that. Just how it is in boxing in general. Got Em!!

Sturm, Geale and Ndam would rather be stripped of titles than fight him. So its not the same as Canelo since he's not being stripped a title.

Plus, Quillin would have got more money fighting Golovkin not too mention he's no bigger of a star than Golovkin. Other than Martinez and Chavez, there are no big stars at 160. All these would have made good money against GGG. In Germany the Sturm fight would have been huge in fact. That was one of the most blatant duck I've ever seen in my life by Sturm.

Man I aint talking about them bums that may have ducked GGG. I more or less meant Martinez, Quillin, and possibly Chavez Jr. The only reason I may give u Chavez Jr. is because he ducked Martinez for so long lol. When a nobody ducks someone who cares he is a nobody lol. Quillin is much more popular over here than GGG is and Im sure his camp feels its not worth it to fight dude with a high risk low reward. Im not saying he aint ducking but not because he is feared. That is my main point. Its about money and if u are gonna risk a loss then they want to be paid. Thats it. Thats why I brought up Canelo ducking Trout, Lara etc.....Not because he is scared but high risk low reward. Thats all. Got Em!!

I understand about Martinez and Chavez, i just wanted to point out Golovkin has tried to fight them. Although GGG not having a big enough name isn't a valid excuse since Martinez fights plenty of Euro bums no one knows (Martin Murray is next). But I understand risk reward.

Peter Quillin isn't a star. He's not any more known than Golovkin. So he has no excuse to act like a diva. Quillin is one of my favorite fighters but HBO offered him more money to fight Golovkin but instead he took less money to fight Guerrero. That should tell you something.

Right thats all I mean is the risk-reward situation. Those other euro's really didnt pose a threat to Serg so of course he will fight them but GGG is a risk and no pay day for Serg so why take it at this point? Who is this Guerrero that u keep saying Peter fought? Funny enough if u wanna look at a fighter who seems to be getting ducked for fear reasons is Broner. Dude moves up to 135 and he cant get no one to fight him. Demarco is a hard head from Tijuana and didnt know no better so he fought him but no one else will. he may be forced to go to 140 before he is even ready lol. Got Em!!
