Hmm, Ortiz is a pretty solid fighter, but I wouldn't count Khan out. He's a rangy fighter, and if he could stay on the outside without catching any big shots, he might could get a decision.

Bad times for some boxers

Kirkland, Holt, Harrison, Gatti

Unbeaten jr middleweight James Kirkland is now being held in custody by federal authorities after being arrested with a loaded handgun in his vehicle last week at an Austin gun show. He has been charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon and has a court appearance today. Apparently there is also another pending case involving Kirkland and firearms, so his May 2 fight on the Pacquiao-Hatton undercard looks in serious jeopardy.
—–
Former WBO jr welterweight champion Kendall Holt has pleaded guilty in New Jersey to knowingly collecting money from drug transactions and delivering it to his manager Henry Cortes, who has also pleaded guilty to drug charges. Holt, who lost his title to WBC champ Tim Bradley on April 4th, may have the charge dismissed if he completes a pretrial intervention program.
—–
After flying to Spain for what he thought was a routine court hearing, troubled former WBO featherweight champion Scott Harrison was immediately arrested and sentenced to 30 months in prison for assaulting a police officer and attempting to steal a car.
—–
Former world champion Arturo Gatti was arrested last week after missing a court date involving an alleged assault of his ex-wife. He has been released on bail, but must return in June.

wow, props to Jacobs if he wins tonight. Two fights in 8 days...

Jacobs vs. Walker Could Land on Pacquiao-Hatton

By Mark Vester

Undefeated super middleweight prospect Daniel Jacobs (14-0, 13KOs) could replace the removed James Kirkland on the Manny Pacquiao vs. Ricky Hatton undercard on May 2 in Las Vegas. Jacobs faces Jose Valera (23-5, 16 KOs) tonight on ESPN2, and if he wins, and has no injuries from the fight, he would face Kirkland's opponent, Michael Walker (19-1-2, 12 KOs).

Richard Schaefer, CEO for Golden Boy Promotions, broke the news to Michael Rosenthal of The Ring Online.

“James Kirkland is an emerging start in the sport so we want to replace him with another emerging star, Daniel Jacobs,” Schaefer said. “Jacobs would take the fight even though it would be a big step up for him. Walker is a true veteran of the sport, a tough guy. It could happen only if Daniel comes out OK. If he gets cut or bruised badly, then it couldn’t happen.”

Kirkland was arrested several days when a loaded firearm was found in his vehicle. The fighter, who is still on probabtion for a 2003 armed robbery charge, appeared in court on Friday and the judge denied his request to travel to Las Vegas for the Walker fight. Kirkland is still being held in federal custody. Kirkland loses out on a $235,000 purse.

Bad career move for Amir Khant....

Victor Ortiz vs Amir Kahn in the near future

According to Dan Rafael of ESPN, both Ortiz and Kahn have important fight coming up and if they both win as expected, they could clash later on in the year.
I give Khan his props. He's going up in weight to take on an unknown, but good champion then if he wins and defends against Ortiz .. he should get credit for that.

I think Wilder can be something special. He's only 23. His size and speed are really impressive. He's got a long time to improve his game too.

Oh and Daniel Jacobs KO was definitely a KO of the year candidate. And right when Teddy Atlas was saying he doesn't really think Jacobs has any real power, BAM! fights over haha

I'll post it as soon as it comes in. And they'll probably show the replay again after the main event. It was vicious!

They said if Jacobs got an early KO he could fight in 8 days on the pacquiao undercard to fill in for James Kirkland. Looks like he will that was a 2nd round KO

that's one of the biggest pussies I've seen in a while. He was actually looking pretty good too, showed some quick hands. Takes one good shot, walks around, uh yeah I'm gonna go down now. quits. what a joke, hope he never fights again. I could have done better than that!

yeah it was surprisingly fun. escalante's got some power, he's very exciting.

I just read John Duddy lost to Billy Lyell, LMAO. Thank god, now Pavlik vs Duddy will not happen and Pavlik can fight someone good like Paul Williams or Abraham.

Both Duddy and Ouma are defeated!
Night of upsets in Newark

By Kurt Wolfheimer and Andreas Hale at ringside

In a huge upset, unheralded middleweight Billy Lyell (19-7, 3 KOs) surprisingly won a split decision over previously unbeaten WBO #2/WBC #4/IBF #6 middleweight John Duddy (26-1, 17 KOs) on Friday night at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ. Lyell simply outworked the sluggish Duddy to prevail 96-94, 98-92 on two cards. Duddy prevailed on the third card 97-93.
—–
Jr middleweight Gabriel “King” Rosado (11-3, 6 KOs) scored the biggest win of his career with a ten round split decision over former world champion Kassim Ouma (26-6-1, 16 KOs). Scores were 97-93, 96-94 Rosado, 96-94 Ouma. Another disappointing
performance for Ouma, who now lost four out of his last five.
—–
In a battle of unbeaten super lightweight, Henry Lundy (13-0-1, 7 KOs) stopped Jason Cintron (10-1, 3 KOs) with a brutal comination at 1:36 of round five. It was an uppercut that finished Cintron.
—–
Unbeaten middleweight Przemyslaw Majewski (10-0, 7 KOs) scored a seventh round TKO over James Lubash (13-2, 6 KOs). Time was 1:17.
—–
Cruiserweight Patrick Farrell (2-0, 2 KOs) needed just 66 seconds to demolish Doug Bowling (0-2). Bowling was down twice.
