He didn't mention that but he did pull a Dave Chappelle for the simple fact he walked without saying anything. The general idea he left us with was that it was a done deal for the comic strip... Took almost a year and half before Season 2 showed up

Chappell isn’t a valid comparison.
- Mcgruder had an agreement with the syndication of the strip that he was taking an indefinite leave to work on the show – 6+ months. That’s why they had re-runs of the strip going. Several papers just stopped printing the strip and most people understood that he wouldn’t be coming back unless there was some kind of major failure with the TV show, even then he probably wouldn’t come back.
- Mcgruder is keeping his creative property and just taking it to another level – not giving it up completely. Animated show is a step above a strip and the talk of a movie for boondocks as well is an even bigger step. That would be like Chappell getting the deal to do multiple movies on characters based off the show and only giving up the show to take on those more lucrative endeavors. Dude didn’t just drop everything and go soul searching in Africa, he elevated his game.
