FOLSOM, Calif. -- The body of a teenage boy was found hanging from a tree in a Folsom park on Tuesday morning, but police said foul play did not appear to be involved.

Authorities said the discovery was made by a passerby at about 9 a.m. in Big Foot Park, located near the intersection of Turn Pike and Hopfield drives.

The boy was identified as 16-year-old Andre Anderson, a student at Folsom High School.

Police said they are investigating the case as a suspicious death, adding that they are not ruling out suicide.

But some local residents said they worry that there may be more behind Anderson's death. Neighbor Rachael Wells said she heard a rumor that Anderson had been lynched.

But police quickly sought to quell the rumor.

"He was not lynched," said Officer Kurt Knudsen of the Folsom Police Department. "He was not bound or gagged. We are not ruling out suicide or an accidental death. But there are no signs of foul play."

Authorities said the coroner will make a final determination about the cause of death.

On Tuesday evening, Anderson's friends gathered near the tree where his body was found. Many also posted messages to Anderson on this MySpace.com page
