I just bought a Motorola v551 phone with Cingular service the other day. It is bluetooth capable but I don't know what all that means. What accessories do I need, and what does bluetooth allow me to do? Thanks for the help. I imagine Mark7 will know all about this shit.....

I think it means if you have Bluetooth installed on your computer, you can access your phone using it. I have bluetooth on my computer, it's a Mac, and I have a bluetooth Mouse and printer so I don't need to be plugged into said items to print or use the mouse..

If you have bluetooth on your computer, click on the icon in the corner ( a weird lookin B ) and click on "set up bluetooth device". And it will go to a page after you hit continue that asks you to select device type. You can click on Mobile Phone or Other Device and it will pick up ALL bluetooth ready devices. It'll pick up your phone if you have it on I think, and from there I don't know cause I don't have my phone set up with it.

I looked some of it up. Seems you can connect to wireless headsets with it, if they're bluetooth ready, so you don't have to hold your phone while driving and stuff, lol.

Thanks for the info....My comp isn't bluetooth ready, I guess I'll have to purchase the software. Anyone know what I need to buy? I remember Mark7 talking about some device that he uses so that he never has to pay for ringtones and shit. How do I do that? Will it make it so I can use Mp3's as ringtones?

I don't think it's neccessary to have Bluetooth on your compy, unless you want to be connected to your phone with it. I'd check out bluetooth accessories like headsets and shit if I had it on my phone. The MP3 ringtones thing I don't know squat about, so hopefully someone comes in and answers it because I am curious too. My phone is old as dirt and I need a new one eventually anyway.. my phone looks like the early 90's big ol brick cell phone, lol.

i think you're talkin bout tha infa red shit that phone have dutch. i went shoppin for phones not long ago and a salesperson at cingular told me blue tooth is wut cannibal said above, it lets you have a wireless headset. dude also explained that if your at home and you set your phone down, all u hav to do is carry tha lil ear piece and if your phone rings the ear piece rings and you could jus clicc a button on tha earpiece to answer ur call. it's jus a wireless earpiece, don't get it confused with a regular earpiece, this shit is wireless. i'm thinkin bout coppin one also cuz i talk with tha phone to my ear and i HEARD that shit might cause brain tumors in tha long run. think about it, u ever have your phone next to a radio or speakers and it's about to ring and some staticy shit comes thru tha speakers? in my mind that "staticy" shit gotta be doin shum to your brain cells in your ear, so who knows in the long run that shit prolly could fucc you up. fold.

ok here's as simple an explanation as I can give:

Bluetooth is a technology that is basically a secure radio frequency...It runs on a freuency similiar to garage door openers (although not the same)...What it does, is it allows one device with bluetooth to communicate with another device with bluetooth up to 30 feet away...on a secure connection....Doesn't matter what brand u have etc because it's a universal technology....U activate bluetooth on one device and then on the other device you have to accept the connection...

In other words u can go to Comp USA and for $30 buy a Bluetooth USB dongle....u put it in yer computer and now u can transfer pictures, sounds, contact list etc. back and forth between the computer and bluetooth capable phone...Also they make Bluetooth headsets, car kits etc so there are no wires if u wanna talk hands free up to 30 feet...and it is SECURE...

And yes, infrared is something different.

Right on Mark, I appreciate the breakdown. So can I put Mp3's as ringtones on my phone with that USB dongle without being charged?
