Honestly I'm not sure. I'm interested in the subject and thought this article would be a good jump off point for further discussion. Instead, I've found that I, personally, am a more interesting subject to many of the posters on here than the issue of reparations or even the contents of the article posted.
Obviously slavery and the decades upon decades of social, racial, and economic discrimination seen by black people were/are terrible.
It would be nice if there were some way to right a horrible wrong, but with something so complex, long lasting, and horrible it is hard to imagine a quick fix like; "Here take your reparations, be happy, shut up, and things are all equal and forgotten now." Entrenched racism and wide economic disparity don't seem like the kind of things that could be fixed by a one time monetary pay out kind of thing.
The question of "Who should get what and how much?" is an important one. But also we as people need to be self reliant and focus on a way to make our lives livable for our families and our communities - independent of the government. Racial comparisons focusing on wealth and class are only useful to a certain extent, but at some point they cease to any longer be useful and actually become harmful.
