LOS ANGELES -- A gang of vicious girls attacking young black and Hispanic women in the southeastern part of San Francisco is plaguing the city, authorities said.
Police Inspector Len Broberg said Tuesday the attacks date back at least six months. Some involve gang members armed with baseball bats, sticks and metal canes.
Broberg said the gang calls itself the "Hill Girls" after Potrero Hill, where they are based.
He said they always attack in groups of five or 10 to one, and they've struck at least 15 times. Broberg believes this is the first gang in the city made up entirely of girls.
Broberg said a few arrests have been made, but the attacks are continuing.
The most serious involve a woman whose elbow was shattered and another woman whose infant was ripped from her arms before she was attacked. The baby wasn't hurt.
