What were your inspirations as a rapper growing up?
I grew up with alot of different types of music always in rotation. Eeverything from Oldies, R&B type shit, to Country music. Ha Ha yeah i said country. For the most part i was influenced greatly by TOKZTERO. Homeboy's got fire. If your like me and you break down artist's lyrics and listen to what there telling you. You would be suprised to hear what TOKZ has to say. Another big influence was WOODiE (R.iP). He also crammed alot of knowledge into his music.
How did you come up with the name BiG RHiNO?
Well to make a long story short, I was named after the big homie (original) BiG RHiNO who is now resting in peace. I was around him so much that his homeboys started calling me lil rhino. The name stuck and when he passed i became BiG RHiNO. With the respects of carying his name on. Shout out to my lil carnalito lil rhino i hope you do the same for me loved one.
So was ACTiVE ENTERTAiNMENT your way in the business? How did you get into the biz?
Na, first time I ever touched a mic was on my loved ones BiG OSO LOC's album READY FOR WHATEVER. He heard I could rap and decided to throw me on a track and he was shocked by what I could do. After that I ended up on different projects. Did a feature with LiL CONER and some other artist's. Ended up running into one of my favoret artist's from san Jo C-LOCS Tha HOODSTAR. He signed me to M.A.E MUZiC. I participated on two albums with them. And after a long while of nothing happening for me I hooked back up with The Bear and we decided to pop off ACTiVE ENT. Our first project on the label is going to be WE STAY ACTiVE the mixtape.
Talk about the album "WE STAY ACTiVE" What's it all about? What's the message you're putting out there with this record?
The Record is huge!! We put a lot into this album. We pulled together some classic tracks and flipped em with a Northern twist. We decided to keep the feature list small but with heavy hitters. We got LiL DEE, you already know what time it is with him. No competition, he rips every track he's on. Also got a track with TOKZTERO. A living legend you already know what time it is there.
You got some big hitters on the album. How did you go about hooking up with LiL DEE and TOKZTERO?
My brother made the track with DEE possible. We talked about it and decided that homeboys been sittin in the shade to long and he already decided to get out and start doin his thang again so we asked him to do it and of course he ripped it. I fuck with DEE on the tats. He's also a giant in that game. So getting to know him in the process we decided to embrace him. Much love to LiL DEE. With TOKZTERO, we came across the opertunity when we were in Salas hooking up with some loved ones out there. Of course i jumped on the chance to work with in my opinion the best man in the game. We also have other features on the album. Some great talent thats gonna be heard real soon.
What was it like working with these other artists? For instance, What is the work ethic like in the studio..Is it all work and no play? How does it differ with each artist and producer..?
Most everybody we worked with is family so yeah we do it on the smooth. Some times it's crazy we might be drinkin some cold ones and just acting a fool, or on the sober tip all work and no play. Thats how i like it. We can party afterwards, just let me knock this out real quick.. ha ha. But sometimes it gets crazy and the homies will start coming threw with company and we got another "LATE NiTE TiP" on our hands.
So who's all on ACTiVE ENT?
Well, we got myself BiG RHiNO from San Jo, BiG OSO LOC from Fremont, DROOPY from Santa Clara, NEGRO from San Jo, CHUCO MAS CHiNGON from Fremont, BRiTTANY from San Jo, & SHADOW from Fremont. So right now its a East and South Bay connection. But im zure more bridges will grow in the future.
What other releases should we be looking out for?
BiG OSO LOC's album OSO GANGSTA is a wrap and dropping soon. Literally shit'n on the game. My album 4EVER RiDiN is back in the works. Soon enough everybody on the team will drop there projects when the time is right. We don't wanna kill the game all in one summer you feel me. Ha Ha.
So what do you want out of this music business? Are you in it for the long haul? What are your goals?
The reason I do this is for my people and my city. I wanna be a voice for my city and break barriers for my people too! I make music for my Northern Mexicans. Don't get it twisted. We all from the same hood! My music is there voice. I think with my talent I can be in this game for a long time!! I want to see this company be excepted on a mainstream level some day. If we keep grindin' nobody can stop us.
What's the SAN JOSE rap scene like right now? Let the people out there know what's going on in San Jo..
We got alot of talent coming out the city. I can see alot of people doing big things. unfortunatly we lose some of the best. We lost CHiVO LOCS recently (Rest In Peace). In my opinion he was one of the best from San Jo. I made it my personal responsibility to take my city to the top. I won't die with out putin SAN jO on a major level in the game. And if i do die before it happens. Hopefully my loved ones pick up where i left off. Thats Teal talk. Much love to my tiburones out there.
What can we expect from you in the future?
Big things! My album with out a doubt will murder the competition. It will be so diverse and unexpected that these lames in the business will have no choice but to step up game. It's nice to see that i got them nervous already. Mark my words.. BiG RHiNO will make it happen..!!
Any last words or shout outs?
Much love to the ACTiVE FAMiLY. also my hood brothers.. you fuckin Butchers.. and respect to those keeping it true to themselves and others. Sige La Lucha.. it's our time to shine..!!
