come on man are you kidding me, doggystyle was way tighter than the chronic, but both were classics
Well, I'd say THE CHRONIC and DOGGYSTYLE were equal in quality (5/5). But the only stuff Snoop's done recently that I even felt half-way was on the two EASTSIDAZ collaborations, which I thought had some dope cuts (and the production on DUCES & TRAYS was kind of groovy in a 'seventies blaxploitation flick way).
The thing I don't like about Snoop's rapping from THE DOGGFATHER and on is that half the time, he sounds like he's whispering (especially on DA GAME IS TO BE SOLD, NOT TO BE TOLD)! At least on THE CHRONIC and DOGGYSTYLE, he sounded awake and alert. Now, he sounds like he just woke up (and for all we know, maybe he did! Maybe he didn't give up pot after all)!
On the "LA Board" not too long ago, there was a very cool interview with THE D.O.C. He said that during the '92/'93 "CHRONIC' period, everyone (Snoop, DPG, Dre, RBX, Nate Dogg, etc.) was on the same page (no egos), but when Dre did the CHRONIC 2001 record, Snoop came in with this huge fucking entourage of bodyguards, go-fers, and hangers-on and acted like he was the King of England. Sounds like old Snooper's letting the money make him, instead of the other way around. PEACE!
