I wish everybody would go independent. Make these weak money hungry crackas in charge of record labels actually work at finding some talent instead of putting out trash like Soulja boy. I can't wait for mainstream hiphop to just destroy itself and people finally get tired of this bullshit.
real talk. i cant wait for mainstream rap and r&b (what they call urban) to get fucked. it's coming down HARD. i think all the latest crap (this past year has been especially bad), and the increasing speed in which it's coming out, is a sign of how fucked up it is and how hard it's coming down. this last rush is gonna be the end of mainstream trash. but we have bigger problems, corporations controlling radio and music is just a part of the problem.

Calm down Michael Davis (phone number (707) 712-1026 born April 2, 1988 of Vallejo, Ca.).This shit is old, why don't you either say something about the subject, "Are rappers better off on independent labels?" You may also reply to something that someone specifically brought up. Thank you.
o wow, your so great you got my full name and my number! All you had to do was walk into rasputins and look on the back of a cd cover i did. good one.

some niggas stay independent merely cuz they aint got no knowledge of the game though...

cuz burning a cd is easier than trying to find investors and all that ole shit...

i think theres advantages and disadvantages to both situations...indy and majors..

a person like soldja boy might have his demographic on lock and thats why he was able to go major

and thatll supply him wiht the muscle in the ringtone game with the saturation of commercials on BET or youtube vids or whatever...

people like mike jones and chamillionare were on that "mac dre" level in their own cities...they seemed to have waited until the pinnacle of their hometown stardom to sign a deal..so they worked indy to go major eventually..

what does this mean to us on the west? nothing.

for some reason the only thing able to bring a 'movement response' has been hyphy themed music, and it seems like no one was ready for it to take off. snap music came about and 10,000 people had snap albums ready in a month.

alot of west coasters were reluctant to support it, alot badmouthed it..and most just didnt understand it..

i think in part alot of cali still has the "gangstas dont dance" mentality...were comin offa a decade plus of gangsta rap and mobb music..it took mac dre and hus to really even get people dancing out here again..

i think a major label would be good when a major response is given to west coast music again. but right now, it seems fickle...like theyre waiting on us to do something bigger.

if we bring dance music back were biting the south and if we do gangsta rap its the same ole shit...i think if someone had the right plan on the west they could go major...game did it..e40 made hella moves...

is it possible to outgrow the independent game?

Aint nothin wrong with Bapes if your shit is real, but most of yall be wearin fakes if you paid under $196.00 for your shit then your shit is more than likely fake. Can't get no bapes or Jordans from some dude sittin in a parkin lot or some dude you met or on some bullshit internet website, yall killin the game. Yeah man I'm 32 and let me say I got a rather lavish collection of outfits probably around $40,000 worth of shit, so can't nobody tell me shit bout fashion. Most of those oversized shirts is lookin foolish, my pants still sag but I'm noticing that a more tapered look is in, shit in the 90's we sagged but our pants for the most part were not fallin off our asses. Many of yall around my age know we was sportin them Girbaud Brand X's not those shitty ass Girbaud shuttle jeans and we was sportin Guess pascal jeans, they had more of a tapered look but you could still give em a little sag. Yeah I would agree that oversized look is startin fade a bit. My partnas nephew who is like 17 was tryin to hyside cause I had a Lacoste shirt size xxl that actually fit and he's standin there lookin like he's on welfare with a dingy white tall t- shirt and some fake ass Jordans ( I mean Air Gordans) tryin to hyside on me cause my shirt actually fit and isn't oversized. You don't know how to dress if your polo top is oversized that shit is supposed to fit just right especially a real Lacoste shirt. But yeah the majors got the game fucked up, they wantin bullshit artists now who cater to viacom television and radio outlets, and shitty ass club songs. Everything is bubble gum. But also most rappers aint got nothin original to say on the mic everybody be braggin bout materialistic bullshit or make dumb ass songs, or come up with the same ole' thug bullshit, don't nobody seem to got some insight to shit, aint no artistery no more. Nothing is deep or thought provoking. Shit you can be street but come with some knowledge, depth and insight. Fuck what they rap about on tv or the radio. The Bay Area needs to take it back to the streets but with a more intelligent hustler mentality. Up until recent times Oakland was always known for having people who were sharp thinkers hustlers who were deep and would out hustle you, and add the game of life to their rhymes. People didn't just rap about havin money they let it be known that they were inteligent thinkers who could produce money on the streets because of their knowledge of the game. All that seems to be out the window now. Right now I'm pretty much just feeling T-Luni as far as Bay Area artists, I'm still a Yuk fan but I like Yuk when he's focused, I also like Del and all of Heiro as well as the Delinquents. Most everybody else aint puttin good shit out but thats ok it saves me a gang of money not buyin their weak ass shit.
i like how you think and you are right about it

Thank you so much, I'm glad you took the time to read my opinion Sonic-E. After all these fools trying to clown it's refreshing to hear someone agree with me. As for Mike Davis stick to computer graphics cause you ain't sayin' nothin yet. I want to hear Mike's opinions on the subject at hand even though he talks way too much shit.

Damn Mikey calm down, maybe I should call you at 4:00 am and talk shit instead. I would really like for you to say something about my opinions Mikey. Maybe I'll call you to see if you'll do some art work for me. Maybe you'd give me a good price since we so cool with each other. No honestly man what you got to say about Bay Area rappers being better off on independent labels ? Be cool Mickey. Peace Mikey

we have to many genres out here, and they all can't get publicity

most are underground and independent in the first place. i just think the sound of music is falling off on a nation wide level

look at songs like 'supersoak dat hoe' i mean come on, how the hell is that piece of shit song the #1 song in the nation? just shows you how much of a fucked up state the music is in right now, it seems like it's all about catch phrases and dumb ass hooks and beats just to hypnotize kids and sell records

people do need to start changing up the styles and start rappin on some motivational educational type shit.. all this dumb ass rap is getting fucked up

this shit was dope when folks like md was alive spawning these new types of genres and movements but now when you see all these people biting off his style it fucks shit up. i've noticed even people around the nation are biting his style but that just shows you that there is difference in making music for people to hear, respect and love.... rather than to steal and make music just to hypnotize people and sell records for a quick buck.. cause you know in the long run people will still be listening to the real shit rather then the trendy watered down catchy ass music that comes out every other week

Damn b law you've written a college legnth paper with a 5th grade grammer

Why you the only one getten so worked up?
Yeah I need to let this shit go. I don't like fools talkin' shit, I deleted the shit I said because is was a little too much. I am willing to call a truce if this fool will put a cease to his little comments. Now N Jail you know damn well your adding the "5th grade grammer" comment don't help. I will ask you to please remove that because you are in my opinion adding to this. I was willing to delete my shitty ass comment for the betterment of getting back to the original subject at hand. Now as you may know I try to keep things as basic as possible so you as well as others can understand but you got shit fucked up if you wanna say shit like "5th grade grammer" I've never had problems with you or any problems with anyone on this board up until recently. Yall need to be a little more respectful, that is why I don't add too many comments on this board. P.S. Those who mock others need to look no further than to themselves and see if their insults first apply to them as individuals. A majority of 5th graders have no problems spelling the words length, getting in this case it should be gettin' as well as doing or doin' in this case. Typos are ok hell I make a few on here myself as Mikey called me on it, but don't point the finger at someone and someone won't point a finger back at you. Peace

I agree about the independent route. I help promote some cats up here in the 801 Salt Lake City. I tell them to use whats available to them for free. Why spend a grip on doing a video when it will premiere on Youtube for free. Make your tracks, post them on myspace and promote the hell out of yourself. Majors are going to start giving single deals soon anyway. Ringtones and digital music rule the industry. Pretty soon the reord labels won't be able to compete. If your a hustle and grind type of player being independent could be a more profitable venture. Like Syko said...Soulja Boy is garbage, but his hustle got him signed to Collipark and the number 1 song, ringtone, and video out. Soon he will fade and the next big hustle will be big...will it be you?
