I was JUSTabout say that. Barry had a phenomenal junior yr but he was a back up to Thurman Thoma his first 2 years so how could he be rated the best college back ever? Herschell Walker was damn near Superman when he played for the Bulldogs.
Herschell Walker wasn't a backup to a NFL HOF running back. Walker was superman for Georgia and damn near won the Heisman as a freshman, but Walker's numbers for any single season were no where near Barry's 1988 season as a whole. Idk. Maybe it's just the fact that Walker will best be known by me as the cat that got traded at his peak to the Vikings by Dallas for 3 Superbowl trophies.

^ ^ U can look @ it like that but I'm not thinking about wht they did in the pros. Yeah Barrys numbers out do Walkers as far as Barrys jr year but I'd still rate Walker over Sanders in college. Herschel was like a human highlight reel. Well, so was Sanders but Walker had the better career. Barry just had the better Heisman season.

^ ^ Um...... No. I'd still rateee evryone on that list over Alexander in college. I'd rate a few more that didn't make the list over him. But he was really good. I do think his brother Curtis was better.

^^Um......Yeah. He could very well be on this list of "best running back in college football from 1990 to Present". Easily. And Um......No. his brother Curtis was NOT better then him.

let me throw out Shaun's college stats real quick for ya....

1996 Freshman
-------------
77 attempts
589 yards
7.6 avg. per carry
6 TD
53.5 yards/game

1997 Sophmore
-------------
90 attempts
415 yards
4.6 avg. per carry
3 TD
46.1 yards/game

1998 Junior
-------------
232 attempts
1,046 yards
4.5 avg. per carry
12 TD
104.6 yards/game
25 rec.
379 yards
4 TD
37.9 yards/game

1999 Senior
--------------
302 attempts
1,383 yards
4.6 avg. per carry
19 TD
125.7 yards/game
25 rec.
323 yards
4 TD
29.4 yards/game

that totals out to be....

3,433 career rush yards
792 receiving yards
48 total td

which averages out to be....

82.5 rush yards/game during his career
101.5 total yards/game during his career
5.33 yards/per carry during his career
1 TD per game during his career

I watched alot of his games throughout his career because my homies pops is from Alabama and he was always watching tapes of the games his family would send up to him every week. If he wasn't sitting behind his brother and Dennis Riddle his Freshman and Sophmore seasons, his numbers would have been MUCH better than they were...EASILY.

Looking at those #'s I would have to say Alexander rightfully so.... deserves to be mentioned on a list called "Best Running Back In College Football from 1990 to Present". Dude was the man at Alabama running the rock!

Ok then who should be took off the list cuz besides his ypc I'm not all that impressed with his stats. He was the man @ Alabama but when was the last time Bama had a star Tailback before & after him? And stats don't really tell the story. BTW the other backs I named had better college careers IMO.

If you ever watched Shaun in college, you know that he was a beast. The stats are solid, but you would have to seem him run to really get a feel for what he was in Mobile. He had power and open field speed that was hardly matched during his play in college...and a descent stiff arm to go with it.

Jones-Drew and Hearst.

I don't even know why Jones-Drew would be on this list, only reason I can think of is because he played at UCLA and from your info you are from LA. Hearst had a good career at Georgia but Alexander has better stats across the board compared to him.

Why does it matter who was the RB before and after Alexander at Bama though, how does that discredit Alexander's stats?

IT doesnt matter but for the record I was born Iin LA but raised in N.Cali. I'm not being bias in anykind of way. And Hearst was by far a way better back then Alexander in college. Since u seem to be all hung up on stats then post Garrison Hearst stats & we'll see who had the better stats between him & Alexander. If i took Jones-Drew off the list I'd replace him with Rashaam Salaam or Tyrone Weatly before I would add Alexander.

Garrison Hearst career college stats....

3,232 Rushing yards
3,934 Total yards
35 Rushing TD
97.9 yards/game
5.95 yards/ per carry

Shaun Alexander career college stats....

3,433 Rushing yards
4,225 Total yards
40 Rushing TD
101.5 yards/game
5.33 yards/ per carry

looking at those stats i wouldnt say Hearst is "by far" the better college running back of the two, they are about the same with Alexander ahead just by a little bit.

i would still take Jones-Drew off that list for sure and like you said, replace him with Salaam, Wheatley or even Alexander easily.

Yeah they were tight but if u looked @ the thread title closely it said from 1990 to present. Barry had a great jr. year when he won the Heisman but that was in 1988. Bo Jack final year @ Auburn was in 1984. That's why they didn't make the list.

To the person who said Tyrone Weatley & Ki-Jana Carter......... Weatley deserved to make the list but I'd rate several other backs over Ki-Jana Carter.
My apologies. For some reason I was thinking 1990s pro football not college.

I'd still go with Hearst. I watched them both play in the SEC & Hearst had more of an impact to me. Stats don't tell the entire story either cuz if they did I would of put Troy Davis on the list. He ran for 2,000 yards TWICE & that surpasses both Hearst & Alexander career yardage. But he wasn't an all around better back then those two. I put Jones-Drew on the list cuz IMO he was better then Reggie Bush in college. I was saying that way back when they were in college. Bush just played for a far more superior team/offense/special teams. No disrepect 2 Bush but that's how I felt/feel. Now if I kept Bush off that list I would of did him injustice cuz he definitly deserves 2 be on the list.

fair enough...to each their own i guess.

lets just agree that this list of players could easily be 20 not just 10, sound good? lol
